Happy Birthday Lily!!

queenie, I think we're going to miss each other with this particular trip to Washington. Even if I was sure I could get my grading done in time to head up on Thursday, I'm pretty sure my husband wouldn't be able to leave before Friday or Saturday.

But it sounds like Vinnie will still be there.

And I'm going to need to go to Washington sometime next summer, regardless of whether I can convince everyone to hold the next Hoot there. I bet nobody can figure out exactly why I'm so hot to go to Seattle next summer. PM me if you've got a guess.

Still trying not to think about hobbit undies. Or lack thereof.

LILY HAVE A WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL BIRTHDAY!!!


Darn you, Elda! I saved all my paperwork for this morning, and now you've got me leafing through poetry books again. Your writing is so beautiful......

And that's just one thing I loved. Phrases like "after the blazing brilliance of summer, autumn lays itself down over the land like a quiet benediction, a cool hand upon a fevered brow" are all through this wonderful piece. I went to the books to find Christina Rossetti ("How do I love thee? Let me count the ways....") but couldn't find that poem. However, I did find this lovely poem by William Cullen Bryant. It's not about Frodo per se, but its phrases recall those marvelous eyes. Lily, consider this another gift from Elda....

I may be a bit quiet for a little while. I find I'm in the midst of the "storm" again, and it's making everyday life difficult. And now Elda's exquisite piece has reduced me to tears. (It really is most inconvenient to blubber at work.) I'm actually somewhat grateful Imly is down at the mo - I need to distance myself a bit and get some work done. Now, I'm not leaving or anything - that would be quite impossible. But I need to distract myself a bit before I go insane from this obsessive love for a wee hobbit. Geez, I don't know why I'm telling you all this. I guess I just feel close to you all and want you to know why I'm a bit distant right now.

Anyhoo, carry on with the frivolity.

It sort of puts a knowing little smiley on my face -- oh those haremites are at it again. And again, and again. I should like to thank Elevensies for the stickers and Frosters. Iorethdttr was very happy to receive a full-size Froster, Froster sticker, and map from the hoot that she had badly wanted to attend.

Do you know, if you put a clingy on a mirror, and look at it from a 30-45 degree angle, the clingy and the reflection of the clingy together create an interesting 3-D effect? At least it did for the triangular piece of skin on the Frenzy clingy. You could almost dive into and live within the depths between the open placket of The One Shirt and the Alabaster Chest.

On the underwear front, "going commando" is just a manly-man phrase for "going without." Oh, those wild Tooks, fancying themselves too sexy for the boxers, too sexy for their boxers, uh huh. Good thing Hobbits haven't invented zippers. Could you imagine an absent-minded commando Pippin re-creating the opening scene from There's Something about Mary?!?

Vinnie: "I'll explain to your Mom later, okay? Listen, we spent the morning out in the Great Smials Gardens picking these flowers for dear Lily's birthday. Come on in here, and let's find a nice place to leave them for her."

Pippin: "Well .... if you say it's okay ..." (green eyes widen as he looks around) "Wow .... why are all these beautiful ladies passed out?"

Vinnie: "Well, hon, they write the most beautiful poetry and vignettes about their love for Frodo, and then when they read them, they pass out."

Pippin: (brows furrow uncertainly) "And I thought Moria was scary .... and poor Frodo, they take good care of him here?"

Vinnie: "More that you can imagine, sweetie. Okay, just leave the flowers here, by these maroon satin cushions, and put that little HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR LILY card you made with them."

Pippin: "Okay. Wow, Vin, I'm actually in cousin Frodo's Harem .... wait till I tell Merry! Do y'think, someday, Vinnie, I might have ...."

Vinnie: "We'll talk about that when you're a bit older, dear."

Pippin: (feeling braver)"Can't I wait around for a bit, till some of them wake up, and -- "

Vinnie: "Maybe best not to, hon. They found out about the Tooks' going commando .... I don't know if you'd be safe."

Pippin: (retreating quickly to the door)"Ahhh, okay, let's go ... I hope Lily likes the flowers. She's such a nice lady."

Vinnie: "She will, and yes, she is. Now, let's see if anyone else needs flowers .... let's go back out into the gardens, shall we, hon?"

Pippin: "Whatever you say, Vinnie." (with one last wide-eyed stare at his cousin's fabled Harem, Pippin wipes the sweat from his brow and quietly closes the door as they leave ....)

The movie channel has it in for me lately. I've been doing the world's most hideously boring research for the last month, and lately I've been keeping the movie channel on, just to hear something other than the voices in my head saying BOOOOORING! So yesterday they had some godawful movie featuring some of the worst I-don't-know-what they were trying to pass off as flamenco, and just now there's some desert sandstorm scene with the amazing special effect of a hand-drawn beige blob stuck to the frames with Scotch tape... I mean Dust Cloud! Amazing Natural Phenomenon! at least wipe yer fingerprints off the scotch tape first...

YES! I'm cranky! Too much reading about business management theory! My knowledge-capital venture incentivization margins are plummeting! I'm negativizing my interest-to-sanity ratios!

And finally...I've been so enamored with my company today that I haven't put any thoughts to pen and paper...and as I should be the one giving a gift to all of you, I hope you will not mind if I re-post a poem that was written by my Frodo-Sprite not so terribly long ago (we're still into summer re-runs, right? )

Jealous is the sky that longs to be
As blue as my beloved’s eyes.
Jealous is the dawn that breaks and feigns to be
As glorious as my beloved’s smile.
Jealous is the sea which longs to fathom the
Uncharted depths of my beloved’s soul.
Jealous is the moon whose cold fingers will
Never touch the warmth of my beloved’s skin.
Jealous is the night, whose cold embrace
Cannot hold my beloved’s warmth so near.
Jealous is the wind whose soft whisper yearns to sigh
As softly as my beloved’s breath.
Jealous is the wine, whose taste can never be
As sweet as my beloved’s lips.
Jealous is the fury, which will never know
The heat of my beloved’s passion.
Jealous is the starling, whose flight can never match
The soaring of my heart.

When I think about the Hoot, I just smile. I have never met so many nice people all in one place. I'm still humming and have that little spring in my step--and that idiotic grin on my face.

Lily, my tat is doing great! I just keep slathering that cocoa butter on it. It's itched a tiny bit (means it's healing) and has showed no sign of infection. The Tengwar letters are a rich deep black. I LOVE IT!!!

And you did a great job researching the shop. {{{Thanks and hugs again}}} I don't know if I got a chance to tell you or not, but I appreciated how friendly and professional the artists were, and I was satisfied that they had taken every hygienic precaution. In fact, I told Chica Jr. that if I had any problems with it it would be because I messed up and didn't take care of it.
