(((((Peachy)))))

Is it OK if I share my two versions of "Gethsemane" too? They were posted on the Parody Thread, now (almost literally!) years ago.

I couldn't come up with a version that would work on Amon Hen, but I wrote one called "Eressea", and then one called "Gorgoroth".

ERESSEA

(Sung by Frodo during his last illness)

My time is almost through
Little left to do
After all, I’ve tried for two years:
Came back home and wrote the Red Book,
Tried to settle; I have changed
I’m not the guy who took that Quest on –

Then I was inspired
Now I’m sad and tired
Walked to Mordor and heart’s breaking
Sword and shield and friends forsaking
Broken at the last; could you ask more
Of any fallen man?

Yet if I go
Sail into the West aboard the boat to Eressea
Say farewell to mortal lands for ever, leave my friends –
I have to know, I have to know Arwen
I have to know, I have to know, Gandalf

Why should I go?
Would I be more noticed or acclaimed than in the Shire?
Will I find some peace of mind, or exile bleak and dire?

I have to know – please tell me, Galadriel
I have to know, I have to know, Elrond
Why should I sail?
Will my memories torture me, and still my soul assail?
Will they let me be, or will the Valar say I failed?

I have to know, I have to know, Cirdan
I have to know, I have to know, Gildor
If I sail, what will be my reward?
Should I die at home or in exile?
I have to know, I have to know, Bilbo
I have to know, I have to know, Bilbo:

Why, why should I sail?
Oh tell, me, why should I go?
Can you show me now that I would not depart in vain?
Can’t I have some concrete proof that I’ll be freed from pain?
Show me there’s a reason I should sail into the West!
Can my wounds be healed in Aman; can my soul find rest?

All right! I’ll go! Oh, just watch me go
Oh Sam, Sam, dear Sam, oh Sam, just watch me go
Oh friends, oh my beloved land, oooh, just watch me go
Ooooh, oooh, just watch me sail –

Once I was inspired
Now I’m sad and tired
I will risk this last sea-journey
Take me to the West and heal me
Hope it’s not for nothing –
Take me soon, before I change my mind.

(Tune: “Gethsemane”, from JCS)

GORGOROTH

(Frodo’s Despair in Mordor)

I only want to say
If there is a way
Take this Thing away from me
For I don’t want to taste its poison
Feel it burn me; I have changed:
I’m not as sure as when I started –

Then I was inspired
Now I’m sad and tired
Listen, surely I’ve exceeded expectations
Walked to Mordor
Borne its weight for months:
Could you ask more from any fallen man?

Let’s suppose I
Bear it all the way, and let it burn away my soul
Let it twist, pervert and rape me, bind me on its Wheel

I’d want to know, I’d want to know, Gandalf
I’d want to know, I’d want to know, Elrond

Are you sure that
Casting it into the Fire will bring the Dark Lord down?
Is it really evil in the sense you say it is?

I’d want to know, I’d want to know, Elrond
I’d want to know, I’d want to know, Elrond

Why must I go
Hurtling to my Doom, into addiction’s deadly grip?
Through tortures indescribable, beneath the Uruk’s whip –

I have to know, I have to know, Gandalf
I have to know, I have to know, Gandalf:

Does it really have the Power you say?
If it does, how could Sauron lose it?
I have to know, I have to know, Elrond
I have to know, I have to know, Gandalf –

Why, why must I go?
Oh tell me, why must I go on?

Can you show me now that if I cast it to the deeps
Sauron’s realm will crumble, and the world be saved for keeps?
Show me there’s a reason for my walking into hell
IS the One this dreadful menace; can you really tell?

All right! I’ll go!
Ohhhhhhh, just watch me fall!
Ohhhh, ohhhh, just watch me fail!
See how I fail! See how I fail!

Then I was inspired
Now I’m sad and tired
Though I’ve borne this Ring for three months
Seems like ninety; why then am I scared to finish
What I started?
What YOU started!
I didn’t start it!

The Bearer’s Doom is hard
But the gods hold every card
I will drain this cup of poison
Bind me on your Wheel and break me
Crush me, strip me, beat me
Bleed me dry
And take away my mind.

(I'm about a third through HP5 - Rowling is putting her lead protagonist through the mill, too. But it ain't the same, of course, and I'm yearning for my knightly Ringbearer ...)

((((((((Harem)))))) Reporting back for Squire snogging duty

The camping hoot was a blast. We ate a lot, gabbed a lot, laughed a lot and read loads of fanfic. Several hilights have been mentioned: I'd like to add Pearl reading outloud from Mira's (and friends') commentary on bad fanfic. ROFLOAO

(((((Hewene))))) I didn't realise you'd had your wallet stolen. Pearl lost her Lothlorien brooch and I lost my camera and sunglasses, oh and my return greyhound bus ticket but I played the cute-little-Brit card and the bus driver let me on without paying anymore

I'll write more on the Camping thread when I've recovered a bit more.

(((Filk empress Niphy))), I should have known you'd filked those songs. Now my heart hurts!

HP is wonderful, I finished the book yesterday. So hard not to post spoilers..

Welcome back, campers! We missed you! I’ve just plundered the Silmarillion – Of Thingol and Melian. Sorry, Tolks.

Of Hobbit and Harem

Frodo was a Baggins, of the race of the Hobbits. He dwelt in the gardens of the Shire, and among all his people there were none more beautiful than Frodo, nor more wise, nor more likely to cause enchantment. It is told that the Haremites would leave their works, and their chores and their business, that they were silent with awe and the chatter ceased to flow, when at the lowering of the sunlight Frodo walked in the Shire.
His friends went always with him, and he enjoyed their songs; and he loved the deep shadows of the great trees. He was akin after the World was made to Beauty itself; and in that time when the Dark Lord was defeated beside the mountain of Orodruin he departed from the Shire and came to Valinor, and there he filled the silence of Tol Eressea before the dawn with his voice and his laughter.
Now when his journey was at its end, as has been told, the lasses of the Harem lamented long in the Shire, beyond the River Brandywine; but at that time many of the Haremites still lived unknowing of each other, in those regions that were afterwards named the Northern and Southern Hemisphere. Many, hoping to share their sorrow, went often through the great forums to seek out kindred spirits in the dwellings of the Net; and it chanced on a time that they came alone to the starlit wood of Tol Eressea, and there suddenly saw Bag End West. Then an enchantment fell on them, and they stood still; and afar off beyond the voices of the stars they heard the voice of Frodo, and it filled all their heart with wonder and desire. They forget then utterly all their people and the purposes of their minds, and following the voice under the shadow of the trees they passed deep into Tol Eressea and were lost.
But they came at last to a glade open to the stars, and there Frodo stood and looked at them, and the light of Aman was in his face.
He spoke no word; but being filled with love the Haremites came to him and took his hands, and straightway a spell was laid on them, so that they stood thus while long hours were measured by the wheeling stars above them; and the trees of Tol Eressea rustled in the dark before they spoke any word.
Thus other folk who sought him found him not, and Frodo took the hands of the Harem and departed, as is told hereafter. The Harem came never again across the sea to the Shire so long as he lived, and Frodo returned not thither while their realm together lasted; but there sometimes came among them the Istari Gandalf and Gorbag the Orc, friends of the Harem who knew the lasses before they came to Bag End. In after days Frodo became a hobbit renowned, and his lasses were all the Harem of BEWTE; the Sisters they were named, the Beloved, the princesses of the smial, and the Squire was he, Iorhael in the tongue of that land. And Frodo was their lord, fairer than any child of Middle-earth; and their hidden smial was in Tol Eressea, of the Undying Lands, in Valinor. Much adoration the Harem gave to Frodo, who was himself considered great among the Eldar; for he alone of all the Fellowship had seen with his own eyes the Lidless Eye in the day of its evil, and hobbit though he was of the Shire, he was not accounted among the hobbits, but with the Elves of the light, for he was a Ringbearer.
And the love of Frodo and the Harem was great, for as far as the Haremites were concerned, he was in the world the fairest of all the Children of Iluvatar that was or shall ever be.

Having not read Silmillarion I don't know how much of that is Peachy and how much is Tolkien but its absolutely beautiful! Thanks Peachy!!! You really have a way of adapting your writing to the styles of so many different writers.

That really was beautiful..one of my favorites

Concerning HP...my husband is reading by day and I by night....so I slept all day...didn't mean it that way...just thought I'd check out one or two chapters last last night and next think I know it was daylight and birds chirping (after all it was the shortest night of the year and up here it stays light til 10:00 and gets light at 4:30 again....I kept on reading until about 9:30 or so).

My husband's nearing the end. He's using his Gandalf bookmark and I'm using my Frodo one to mark where we are...Unfortunately I accidentally found out a *major* spoiler flipping through looking for something else...sigh.....

Can't help making so many comparisons between LOTR and HP...the most obvious to me Dementors=Nazgul LOL!

It's really nice to hear from the campers - y'all better check out how prolific the virtual campers were while you were gone!

Geez, "prolific" is an understatement! What were you trying to do, match in print the number of words spoken at the hoot?

Peachy, I bow to you so many times my back hurts already. Hope you don't mind being in yet another sig.

Maeglian, what a beautiful vig and limericks. You are a Haremite and no mistake.

And Arryle, Niph, Hobmom, Spork, Narya and mel: your writing rocks!

The score to both movies has been running in my head non-stop since the hoot. Must be something about watching it with Haremites. It gets engraved on the brain!

Hey, Babylon 5 fans, guess who Pearl, Elenya and I saw on the street on Friday? Michael O'Hare, none other than Captain Sinclair! He was my particular heartthrob on that show, and I was sorry to see him leave. He looked good--a bit greyer. There he was, just trundling along with his Zabar's bags. Wow!

Off to read Aisling's new piece on the Archive.

Hi, guys! Ack! RL rears it's ugly head! The price to pay for a week away (but *so* worth it!)

I just wanted to make a plea for folks to continue to make this a HP5 spoiler-free zone. I am so behind in everything, and doing a show, and not sure exactly when I'll be able to re OotP (*soon* I hope!!!!) and am trying to avoid all spoilers. Any help in this would be greatly appreciated!

Love all the vig and filk and parody writing, still catching up with *that* too. You guys are just too amazing for words! Whoa!

Don't worry Hewene...I was so mad at myself for finding what I did this morning on Order of the Phx....and I won't way a word!!!!

At some point, we'll have to let each other all know when we are done so we can chat about it

My husband is practically finished.....but I can't decide whether to start reading tonight...I don't want to be up all night again....I've meanwhile been rereading back through Goblet of Fire just to get my bearings straight.

I think I've read everything posted while I was away. I haven't noticed anything about the wondorous restaurant Meryl, Chica, Pearl, Elda and I went to in NYC. The waiters recognised our hobbit boys sitting in the middle of the table and told us EW ate at that restaurant a lot!!!!!!!!!!

We thought they were winding us up at first, but they told us enough to convince us it was true

Well, dang-blang it, I missed EW twice (at the restaurant AND at Forbidden Planet), and I missed Michael O'Hare too???

*wanders off murmuring "not the One, not the One"*

And what about the other restaurant Meryl took me and Pearl and Elenya to--the one done up in pillows and rugs, which has inspired me to come home and do up my study all Harem-y?

The lad sitting beside me on my 10:00 a.m. connecting flight home from Dallas had his copy of OotP already and was halfway through it! I resisted the urge to read over his shoulder.

Girls of the Harem, I had the most wonderful time, and my, there's been some brilliant stuff posted here in the meantime!

LOL!!! Indeed, Arwen's German voice sounds exactly like that! But she didn't get more popular over here that way.

Hi FG!

Here's again one of my poems. At some points it could be Frodo-related.
(And if you should spot some language errors, I'd be glad to know).

Spirit so Fair

Above the River you fly slowly
Never resting, not even in fear or despair
The answering voices, howling lowly
To your hopeful spirit so fair
The depths and terrors you have seen
Even when the Light still shone
Buried under ashes, that's what you have been
Solitude and painful sin- but no eternal harm is done

Above the Mountains you sing freely
Neverending, no fear or despair
But haunting voices, never reaching you really
Try to poison your spirit so fair
The depths and terrors you have seen
Even when the Light still shone
Covered by ashes, that's what you have been
Agony and fears and cries- but no eternal harm is done

Above the Sea your spirit breathes
Laughter and joy, no fear or despair
The evil voices... their echo, it ceases
No longer grasping your spirit so fair
The depths and terrors you have seen
Even when the Light still shone
Buried under ashes, that's what you have been
Ere forgetfulness over eternal harm had won

And the ship went out into the High Sea and passed on into the West, until at last on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water. And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a far green country under a swift sunrise.

Welcome back, Pearl and Elenya!

Still waiting for HP5 to reach Russia...

I just wanted to post this after looking at Frodo's pictures again! I wrote that as a part of my longer fic at the Harem archive, but with all my studies I couldn't finish it. I promise I'll do it sooon, but now...

How Ellin Estel saw Frodo Baggins rof the first time:

So, when Ellin came to the Halls, she didn’t know who would be there. She arrived early, and after singing to Varda and Manwe, left the grandeur of the main Hall, feeling shy and reclusive, and went to the galleries to ease her mind from some strange awareness that tried to weave into her mind, whispering something she could not yet understand, from some yearning she could nor fulfill. Leaving, she turned and saw Varda looking at her thoughtfully, smiling to herself, as if she already knew what was troubling the timid Maia.

She walked along the shining galleries slowly, touching the garlands of flowers hanging on the columns, caressing the smooth marble with her hands, breathing in the sweet scents of the valley below. She turned and went up the silver stairs up to a small balcony turned to the east, to Tol Eressea. Sitting down on a carved wooden chair, she looked down and gasped. There, on the blue waters of the bay, a grey boat was slowly moving towards Valinor. But this was not why the Maia gasped and almost fell onto the chair. For a brief moment she clearly saw the two people in the boat. One was Olorin, but she didn’t even really notice him because of the other. The other… The face that she saw has shaken her to the depths of her soul. Mesmerized by the sight of such perfect beauty, she could hardly breathe. Here, In the Blessed Realm, she was always surrounded by beauty but suddenly all that she had seen before seemed to her empty and faded. The waves of the Sea itself could not be compared with the colour of his eyes, she thought absently, all the roses of Yavanna are not as fine as the blush on his cheeks, all the pearls of Ulmo are not as white as his skin, and the curves of his black locks are more round than the Sun and the Moon themselves! And his face…young and old,…happy and sorrowful,…as if he saw all the ages of Arda. Maybe he did, she corrected herself, I have seen his pointed ears! Yet his features are so unlike any elf’s I’ve seen! The vision of him filled her with unknown delight, and she sat there for a long time, dreaming about nothing but meeting him. She even had not noticed when the boat reached the shore of Valinor…

Don't wish for eternal love. You might get what you want. You won't like it, trust me.
Oh, my emerald, my green star,
Dimiaris, where you are?!
All my soul is taken away!
Oh, my dream, you're my love and my pain!
