You know, PJ probably could pull off the orc-running scene if he wanted to. And it wouldn't feature such gems as "Where There's a Whip, There's a Way" But, though more Frodo is always a good thing, I'm worried about PJ running into a time crunch. I would rather have him leave out a whole scene like the orc run and wring every bit of emotion possible out of Shelob's Lair through the Tower of CU and the climb up Mt Doom.

If PJ made the films for Haremites, the Crickhollow bath scene would have been filmed.

I'm sure it's in. Ages ago there was mention of PJ at a shoot shouting "Orcs - run!" to EW and SA.

But is the debate as to whether this will survive to the final cut?

I have to tell you, if I were a casual moviegoer this scene would make me choke on my popcorn laughing. It's hard not to mull over the intricacies of orc/hobbit size ratios when they're right there on the screen in front of you, and all of a sudden you have to either accept the magical appearance of a bunch of incredibly short orcs that Frodo and Sam can blend in with or accept the idea that orcs are too stupid to tell the difference between three foot six and five foot six at the smallest.

My faith in PJ is unlimited, but I just cannot believe that there's any way to take a scene that was eye-rollingly unbelievable in the books and make it play well in a context where everything that makes it unbelievable will be inescapably right there on the screen.

Also, PJ shouting "Orcs - run!" sounds more likely to be an instruction to run away from orcs than to run with them.

Mel, my daughter still holds a grudge because the Crickhollow bathroom scene wasn't in the movie.

Ah, Crickhollow. We never knew ye.

Frodo and Pippin in their scruffy little altogethers, singing Water Hot! And making the water Leap on High.

*sigh*

There was also no time to properly dwell upon the Sacred Mysteries of the Contents of Frodo's Wardrobe at Bag End. Perhaps there were other Shirts, as mystically commanding as The One.

Also mourned is the Lingering, Lush, and Sensuously Intoxicating Slo-Mo Shower under the Waterfall.

Any number of Frodo Sleeping Peacefully in Lothlorien Whilst Silvery Blossoms Caress His Forehead scenes, gone.

The Further Gigglings of Tipsy Frodo at the Green Dragon, we can only guess at.

But, that's why I keep my imagination on the bottom shelf, where I can reach it easily.

Thank you to Rosie and Ghyste and Peachy and Narya and Mariol for liking my avatar Well, if everyone likes it I guess I don't have to go back and edit it. 'Psychedelic' wasn't exactly what I was going for, but I guess that will do Though, I agree with Mariol; it's impossible even for me to mess up my source material!

Am still loving Peachy's version of the VSD's. We're getting HALFling next, yes?

Enjoy your vacation, Ellin Hewene will try to keep it down . . . *Catta ducks, just in case*

To be truthful, I'd never really thought about the plausibility of the orc-run in the book or movie. When I first read that scene in the book, I was rather shocked that none of the real orcs noticed the suspiciously short, hairy-footed orcs in their midst. But, being the forgiving type that hates to dwell on flaws in something I otherwise enjoyed very much, I passed it over and accepted it. As for it being in the movie, I wouldn't put up a great fuss if it was left out. Yes, it contributes angst and suffering, but there's going to be plenty of that in any case. At least, I hope so. And I have to agree with Mel: if keeping orc run means that Peter has to skimp on other aspects, I'd rather do without it.

As for me, I deeply regret the omisson of the absolutely canon scene featuring Frodo's Rivendell Orgas...I mean, appreciation of Elvish poetry. How that got left out, I'll never know. I'm sure Fran and Philippa were fighting for it tooth and nail. Maybe PJ gave them the nipple to make up for it.

I don't talk about a lot of personal stuff on these boards, but I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that today I attended the funeral of a woman who was my landlady and neighbor for almost ten years. I mention it because she was one of the few sterling examples of a truly good person that I've ever known. She was someone who embodied kindness and goodness in a realistic, down-to-earth way...not a Polyanna-ish spouter of platitudes, but someone whose goodness showed in acts towards others, acts that she performed with no other motive than to help someone who needed it. Her brother's euology said of her, "She protected those who needed protection without ever being intrusive," and I can't think of better words to describe her. When I moved back to NY, she found an apartment for me without ever asking me why I was leaving Maine so suddenly...and she never DID ask. She was so quiet and unassuming in her kindness, that months could go by before you even realized she had done something for you. She was a devoted Catholic, and unlike many "Christians" she was a true shining example of what a Christian is supposed to be. She died on Friday after a long battle with cancer, and the world is just a little bit colder without her in it, but paradise is probably a little brighter.

*lighting a candle for Elda's landlady and friend*

Now, just where in the book was this, umm, Frodo-Orga... er, uh, Elvish poetry thing in Rivendell?

Catta, the colors in your avatar are truly psychedelic. *Chica has a brief flashback to the late '60's* The subject matter is timeless, however.

That's truly touching, Elda. Thanks for sharing that with us.

I'm really happy I took the time to read such a large paragraph word for word.

Now, onto Frosdick-Grand! That's the most brilliant thing I've read in awhile. I tried to explain to my roommate why I was laughing so hard, but I don't think he really got it. I dunno... something about talking to dozens of women online who are completely in trance over Frodo doesn't sound normal to him.

Now, onto the Froness of New Orleans.

I think we've got one of every Fro mentioned, except for Frosdick, of course.

One that I find interesting isn't a Fro, but it's close enough: Frklic. (Yes, that's spelled correctly) Imaginations, ladies.

There's also some other interesting ones. Fromenthal (doesn't sound so pleasant!), Fronistas (sounds... dangerous! ), and this one I like, Frondorf... and you got to love Frontini. I bet he could work some magic.

All Things Bright and Beautiful. (sorry, Lord.)

All orcs tall and height-impaired
all Uruks big and small
all orcs gross and hideous
our Tolkien made them all!
He made poor Fro run with them
which may seem rather odd
but this means angst and anguish
so I don’t give a sod!
PJ, give the orcs a run
please give us whips and tears
Fro looks great in orc-gear and
I’ll worship you for years.

The Very Secret Diary of HALFling, continued.

Day 10.
Looking through photos from the Hoot. Chica and Chica Junior. Mother and daughter. Mustn’t have pervy thoughts. Musn’t. Mustn’t.

Day 11.
Chica Junior is a dancer. V. athletic. Oooh.

Day 12.
Hewene watching TTT. Frolijah gets beaten up by Gollum, falls in water, sleeps on rocks. Still retains perfect complexion and pretty hair. So would I if I had a makeup artist and costume designer, matey.

Day 12.
Still have hickey on back of neck. How to explain? Must start growing hair longer. Will be difficult. Perhaps will try new hairstyle. Afro? Braids? Dreadlocks?

Day 13.
DO blonds have more fun? I mean, look at the Elves. Not exactly barrels of laughs, are they?

Will look different to Teutsie at least.

Day 14.
Hmm. Must choose between Honey Blond and Sunbleached Blond. What to do, what to do.

Definitely will not grow beard. Am not dwarf. Or garden gnome.
Emailed this comment to Teutsie, who replied I could be mistaken for one after too many drinkies. Har bloody har.

Day 15.
Told Teutsie about hair plans. Teutsie fell about laughing. Huh. He’s the one considering brown contact lenses.

Day 16.
Emailed Schatzie. He suggested buzz cut. Considered for about two minutes. Will not do it, as will expose hickey for all to see.

Day 17.
Emailed Elevensies. She is not at all keen on bleaching hair idea. In fact, v. much opposed. She may kill me if I try anything.

Who is Billy Idol, anyway?

Tattoo would be nice. On hip, perhaps. Or has it been done?

Day 18.
Hewene spotted hickey. Believes she did it in her sleep. Huh. Anyway, do not need to change hair.

Schatzie sent encouraging email. Suggested sunglasses and black leather ensemble, a la Matrix or Vampire. V. foxy look.

And no risk of being mistaken for Barbie doll. Ugh.

Peachy - I was wondering who Schatzie was e-mailing. I am very glad to find out it was not an Arwen doll from Germany, whom he missed and pined for. Am endlessly amused that he is promoting buzz-cuts - perhaps it is listening to my 8-mile CD that is influencing him. I must have a word with him about being a bad influence.

I trust PJ with broad strokes, to put a cracking movie together. But as far as subtle nuances go, I hope for the best but don't expect too much.

Elda, what a fortunate world it is, with such souls to prefigure Paradise. You have been blessed.

Mel, I'm convinced that my version has already been filmed, and that Fran & Phil keep it as a sort of stag reel. The Slo-Mo Leaf Caress and Eyelash Sweep in Lorien was kept in as a sign for those see who can.

((((Elda)))) So sorry you lost a lovely friend but glad you had her company for ten years.

Mike - do let me know if you ever pull off the whole 'normal' thing...I may try it on my husband. Of course, 20 yrs of living with a LotR fanatic (whom he once accused of applying Minoxodil to the tops of his feet while he was sleeping so he resembled a certain literary character a bit more) has rather skewed his idea of normal. All the better for me.

Peachy - ROFL. LOVE the poem. (You GO, girl!) And the Diary...hmmm - let's just hope he doesn't spy OB's mohawk and get ideas. Could be some real trouble there.

I've been at the inlaws the past two weeks, so it's been impossible for me to keep up here. And I'll be here until Sunday, and after that when I return to RI I'll have a guest for the week, so it's looking like another two weeks until I can return to my regular Harem duties and activities. I'm woefully behind on my emails as well. (Aratlithiel, I swear I will get that email out to you, I swear...)

I've been able to "keep up" over in FanFic only because it only moves at the speed of sound as compared to the speed of light in here.

Tonite I'm going to print out the last ten pages and read them all if it's the last thing I do!

Until then--

Eliya--Arryle told me about your loss. I'll be thinking of you--please let me know if there's anything I can do. {{{Eliya}}}

Lily takes a quick look about...

MIKE?!?!?

MIKE!!!!

Is that really you?

Yay!!!!!

And I will get back to your email, I promise! Only you've asked me to discuss politics, and as you should know that requires a lengthy reply from me.

Stay safe to everyone battening down the hatches!

I'm certain Frodo will be spending most of his time distributing his own special brand of comfort to the storm-weary as needed. Though something tells me Merry and Pippin might show up and interrupt his plans...I hear they love a good hurricane party.
