HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY TALA!

((((Europanya)))) I'm green with envy. *THUD* Thank you so much for sharing that! It left me breathless and I needed quite a lot of time to recover... You reminded me of my Inner Fangirl, sleeping, but by no means dead.

Thanks Pearl, for reposting Elda's 'Made for Sleep'.:swoon:

Hobmom- you're the Goddess of Screencaps! :notworthy: I love all the art pictures posted recently. They are so utterly... harem-ish. Thanks also to Ariel for the wonderful photomanip... and for THIS:

Well, Ele, if you are beating it, of course it is going to stiffen too quickly! You have to whip up frosting with nice even strokes, going the full length of the bowl, up and down with skill but not too much gusto. After all, you have to make sure it stays firm long enough to do you some good!

((((Ghyste)))) Enjoy your time in the USA!
And I hope all you hooters will have a gorgeous time!

Talking You rock, Europanya!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your wonderfully detailed and squee-worthy post. I felt like I was actually there and even though I don't know you from a hole in the wall, I am thrilled beyond words that someone from "our world" got to actually MEET and TOUCH and INTERACT with three of my hobbit-boys.

These guys are a gift, to each other and to us and perhaps to the larger world. What a pleasure to continually hear about their basic "niceness" and unspoiled pleasure in their fans and in each other. They have CLASS.

Inserting fangirl shriek here that has been building up since I read your report: OMIGOD, OMIGOD, OMIGOD you got to touch ELIJAH and see his EYES up close and talk to him OMIGOD....

Okay. Back to "normal" mode now...*sigh*

Damn. I haven't felt like this since I was in junior high school. And I'm a long, long way from then. Thanks, guys. You make me feel young and silly and hopeful.

And, Europanya? Well, we are just sitting here twiddling thumbs in anticipation of that footage. Pretty please???

*Dignified sigh* I suppose if the rest of the Harem wants to see some EXCLUSIVE UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL OME footage of the "eyes," well, I'll go along with it.

{{{{{Narya}}}}}}}}: sending good thoughts your way. I hope it is nothing serious.

The "Primula and Frodo" picture is just lovely.

Peachy, nice spot-on interpretation of Europanya's ComicCon report! I was also wondering about Leah's glasses, as another myopic person, glad to know they weren't lost. One more question for Europanya - must hobbit-lasses wear corsets, as in Leah's costume? Would a push-up bra be all right instead? We need to breathe in BEWTE.

Ah Peachy, what a fun way to wake up, I long ago memorized all the Grease tunes. (I saw it ~the movie anyhow~ many many many many times) That was fun singinging that fillk in my head. We will sing that one at the Hoot, I will make sure of it. I have a recording of Tala singing our version of 'Anything' to take with me too.

elanorh..... so when is dinner tonight?

The Primula and Baby Fro picture is the most perfect thing!
`````````
Farawyn, my hobbit lass costume has the corset sewn right in, I can breath just fine, but it can be restricting to move in, and you need someone to tie you up into the thing. I think that only a hobbit lass party dress would really need a corset. A hobbit lass everyday working around the smial dress would not need one.?elanorh, the awesome seamstress would know more. I need the corset, cause my bosoms are 42 years old, and well, to make them heaving they need a push...........plus, push up bras hurt more than the corset anyday, lol
Hmm, Queenie -- dinner tonight included fried zucchini, another hobbity dish if I've ever had one! But am so full, am willing to share.
In re: corsets and hobbit lasses -- I must admit that I haven't gotten terribly invested in figuring out how those costumes were put together (I've spent far more time lamenting the loss of bound buttonholes on Frodo's vest and jacket, etc. ) ....
So my completely uneducated, uninformed guess would be that the corsets were reserved for 'special occasions' and that ordinary, every-day dresses might'n't have featured them. ?? I would imagine that virtually every hobbit costume in the movie has featured a corset, though.
I'm sure that the elves have discovered a way for corsets at BEWTE to be comfortable, and perfect at shaping the hobbitlass form though!
Off for a quick walk with hubby (I hope it's quick!) and then cut out another maternity dress .... must get the three dresses I've left to make, completed within the next week, because I'll need them to be 'dressed up' yet keep somewhat cool for the weeklong trip I'll have to take for work, Aug 10-17th. Shorts not acceptable. But no A/C either.
Well, I'm off in a couple of hours Have fun while we're gone! Thanks for all the well-wishes
Since my friend is taking me to the airport, I had to tell her about HALFling. I'm pretty sure she's *that* close to calling the men in the little white coats. This is the same friend who was exasperated when she realized I'd gone to see FOTR for the 3rd time (I didn't have the heart to tell her it was more like the 9th time! ) She just doesn't get it. But that's OK, I love her anyways
Lily, this friend told me something that I didn't know. If you look at Teutsie's head, right at the nape, you can see that he's marked. Says "Frodo" (in case you forget ) has Groessle-Schmidt's mark, the year, and his number. I can clearly see there that he's #94 (I know your certificate was hard to read like mine was). So you should be able to tell his number easier there (at least I could). Maybe you already knew this, but I didn't. I obviously haven't explored HALFling nearly as closely as I should have yet....
This friend does not collect dolls. But she reads about stuff like this, collectibles and antiques. She is an encyclopedia of such stuff. Of course, if she knew just how *non-mint* HALFling was, the whole collectible thing would go out the window...
Hewene, I found Schatzie's number on the first day - I must have done more 'exploring' than is the norm.
Thanks for the well wishes, everyone. Since I'm here, that means I haven't been admitted to the hospital. But I had to go there twice yesterday, once to see the neuro-opthamologist again, and later in the day to see a retinal specialist. I'm due there again in two hours for a retinal angiogram. They dilate my eyes every time, which means I can't do anything that requires decent vision in my one good eye for not just the appointment time, but three or four hours afterwards as well. This will be my fifth appointment in four days. Can anyone say 'lost holiday?'
Still no answers, but as the retinal specialist said yesterday, at least they're eliminating what it isn't!
As one of my friends said, it's all good as long as you've got your vision back by December. Now there's someone who understands my priorities!!
Have a happy hoot and safe travels, hooting Haremites!!!!
Have fun stormin' the castle!
Thanks for the pounds shillings pence info, Voronwe and Elenya. I got curious and looked up the etymology of "dollar". From Joachimsthal, a silver mine in Bohemia. A silver coin was described as being a Joachimsthaler, then just a thaler. The first US Congress wanted to name the new currency something that wasn't English.
There is absolutely nothing like a good Harem Frenzy. Someone was recently lamenting having missed all the prior Frenzies. And yet, somehow, another Frenzy (hee hee, I typed "FROenzy )comes along and sweeps us along with it!
Europanya, thank you ever so much!
And Peachy.....y'know, Qantas is advertising $899 round trip airfares to Australia right now. I am seriously considering spending that amount just to meet you and give you a great, huge hobbit hug!
{{{Narya}}} What an awful bummer of a holiday! My thoughts are with you.
Footage and corsets.
quote:
90 minutes of footage of them running around the conference? How did you get that? I would have definitely gone if I had known it would be like this! I hope our friend in Northwesternesse got all that too cause she videotapes everything.
Myself and my crew all had press badges which enabled us to travel into close-nit areas where the trio of hobbits were either interviewing with someone or giving a talk or signing autographs. The problem was, lots of kids attending the show were also walking around with press badges (it's not terribly difficult to obtain one) which made it hard for legit press to get into these areas. Teen "press" would pack the press boxes or seating and then I'd have to shovel my way in. At least we had professional filming equipment to back up our claim. The kids just had hand cameras if that.
In the case of the post-New Line panel autograph signing, (Elijah, Dom, Sean and Andy) security was throwing out "press" because the box overfloweth. But I fought them and got in. My camera crew were already filming so I just pushed to the front and snapped off a roll of film. The box was just to the right of the autograph table so I had an unobstructed view of Elijah and Dom.
Elijah was being so sweet to everyone: young, old, downright scary women were all swooning in front of him. Some were crying so hard you could see him looking really worried for them and trying to calm them down. He hugged a lot of them and posed for snap photos. Occasionally a herd of girls would begin to scream is name and he would jump up on his chair and whoop back at them. This caused more frantic screams of course and security was getting really really paranoid. Hey, at least he wasn't escaping on them!
The lads only signed for 45 minutes, so there were a lot of insanely upset fans who all started chanting "stay, stay" so Elijah, Dom and Sean got up on the tables and waved to everyone as screams rocked the tented ceiling of the stiffling hot space. It was madness. We interviewed this one girl who passed out during her wait and was carried to the side. She didn't get to meet them so when they were escorted out she tried to chase after them, just madness.
As for a screening......anyone here live near Southern California? Eh?
As for corsets....I dunno. They had Leah wear one which Dom found oh so interesting. So a little booby push-up won't kill ya. <g> As for myself, I'd go as a lad.
Hugs!
Sharon/europanya
You know ...
... Reading about all those demented female Elijah fans makes me feel perfectly normal.
No, really. I'd be dead chuffed to meet the lad who played Frodo because he's obviously a charmbomb and a genuinely nice person, but ...
Well, all I'm saying is, what we do in the Harem is cool. Whereas ...I am NOT comfortable with that kind of fan behaviour in RL. *shudders*
Just put it down to my British reserve. And of course my complete coolness.
And yes, I swoon all right when I'm watching the DVDs. I'm a Haremite and a swooner and a dreamer ... just not a screamer.
Europanya, thanks again!
(((Narya)))
Have fun, Hooters. Wish I was with you!
Yeah, I can't really sit here and pass judgement on scary fan behavior because I know damn well that in their shoes, I'd do the exact same thing. The crying. The screaming. The fainting. Especially in a crowd situation, where the frenzy just sort of carries you along. At least no one threw up...I'd probably do that, too. See, that's why I just can't really wish to meet EW...he's the Frodo-vessel, like Teasel said. He's the Frodo-vessel, and he's had a starring role in every one of my fantasies and a number of my dreams for the past 18 months and I don't ever want to be exposed to the real thing. A gal can only handle so much crushing humiliation and self-degradation in one lifetime. I couldn't bear spending the next 50 years thinking of myself as "the woman who threw up on Elijah Wood."
One who dearly loved him,
For all who dearly loved him, Frodo the Halfling fair.
I can honestly state that I have no desire to meet the lad in RL. My swooniness has been hampered by my mind's irritating insistence upon reminding me just how much older I am than he is.
That and a friend's unforgivable bad taste in bringing to my attention that technically, it would be less scandalous if he dated my teenaged daughter than if he carried on an illicit affair with a 38 yr old mother of four has put a serious damper on any 'what if' fantasies I may have entertained at one time. (MAY have - didn't say DID)
Now, if I were to meet FRODO... THAT's an entirely different can of worms that I would be only too happy to open and take a swan dive into.
