Europanya! Jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous!

That said, though, I'm with Pearl, Elda and Aralithiel - I think seeing this guy in real life would be too surreal. I'd have a crisis.

By the way, Aralithiel - I saw a car today that had a bumper sticker bearing your dragon signature.

Happy Hooting in KC

I'm off camping tomorrow. I may or may not have time to get on line tomorrow so to you all.

((((Narya)))) What a lousy vacation. I hate all the icky things opthamologists do to your eyes when they're dilated. And to keep having people poke at your eyes and not be able to see and everything for big chunks of your vacation...

But, yeah, the key thing is for everything to be all right so you can enjoy December.

Sharon, thanks for the comic-con stories! I was impressed by your self-possession before, and then reading about all the fans at the autographings... though I'm with Anais and Pearl and Aratlithiel in not particularly wanting to meet EW in person. (I'll leave Elda out, cause I can usually avoid barfing... Usually.) I felt a bit sorry for EW, not getting to wander the floor at comic-con like he could a couple years ago, but you know? It sounds like he enjoyed the Great Escape. It amazes me that those guys are still impressed by the number of fans who want to see them. It reminds me that movie actors don't get to see their audiences most of the time, unlike stage actors or musicians.

Happy Hooting, all.

Mel

Oh ... I didn't say that I didn't want to meet Elijah!

I'd be really thrilled to meet him, just because he's a nice lad, and because the LOTR cast - and the way they conduct themselves - impress me.

I'd be absurdly pleased to meet him! Just couldn't bear to behave like a screaming FanGurl round him, is all.

He is also young enough to be MY son, and he mainly inspires maternal feelings in me. Mainly.

Frodo is somewhat different. Frodo is the fantasy, whereas Elijah is the reality.

I have to agree that while I'd love to meet Elijah (or any number of LOTR actors ), I'm concerned about how I'd react...
I like to think I'd be cool and mature and appreciative of his fine acting...but my track record of meeting famous people suggests it could go otherwise .
Since I have many friends in the entertainment industry I usually do alright; but on a number of occasions my attempt at intelligent conversation has disolved into blushing, giggling, and an inablilty to be coherent (though I usually manage to get in a hug ).

My reaction does tend to be directly proportionate to how much a person is a hero of mine. (Willie Nelson could vouch for this )

Elijah is an attractive, charming young man. Though he very ably plays the theatrical role of my favorite literary hero, his own personality is quite different. My feelings toward him are somewhat maternal, though I like to think I'd be cool enough to be able to hang out with him.

On the other hand, Frodo and I and I are old friends. We have 35 years of history (though it was all fairly platonic until more recently when I unleashed the inner Haremite ). As I am highly unlikely to run into Mr Baggins unexpectedly in real life at a convention, or at the mall, or while strolling a moonlit beach.......I don't think I have to worry too much about my reaction to him.

Europanya, thank you for the delightful report! You define "cool" in this situation!

Many belated "Happy Birthdays" and other acknowledgements to my assorted Harem sisters! I have been very remiss in posting here, for which I apologize.
I've been away on tour much of the time (which is good), but have been trying to at least lurk a couple times a week.

I hope all those heading to the Hoot have a wonderful time!
(I'm trying really hard to not be upset about missing yet another gathering of the Harem...but I'm only succeeding a little...)

Well, it's always been Frodo for me - so yes, I'd be very reserved about seeing Elijah too. That's not to say all these reports aren't v cool indeed, though!

I'm more emotional about the BBC version I grew up with, personally. It's more Ian Holm's portrayal - second, of course, to Book Frodo - that has haunted me all these years.

But Elijah IS a thoroughly nice lad, which is why I've just about forgiven him for not reading the book. And I'll wait and see what he's going to deliver in ROTK. This "destruction of Frodo's soul" business does make me wonder quite what Pete "Subtle As A Car Crash" Jackson has in store.

Still, it can't be more devastating thatn the BBC Mount Doom.

I'm glad you had a nice time.

Yes, I'm slightly nervous about this too, Niphy ... ((((Niphy))))

And I don't want any 'Nuclear Frodo'at Mount Doom, thank you, PJ.

I was very impressed with Frolijah's acting in TTT though. I just wish that PJ had given him more of Book Frodo to work with.

(BBC Radio Mount Doom is freakin' awesome!)

Just popping in to say ta-ta for a week as I'm off on hols to Torquay tomorrow.

I learned my lesson with TTT-dont expect too much and then I wont be disappointed and may even be pleasantly surprised. I know I'll be crying buckets at the end no matter what, even if PJ decides to end it with a big musical extravaganza.

I'm glad so many Haremites are Hooting right now- at least it'll be easier to catch up when I get back.

Hugs to Narya. Hope your poor eye clears up soon. Didnt you have something similar before?

Bye for now.

I think my fear wouldn't be throwing up on Elijah if I met him..... it'd be opening my mouth to try and say something nice and hearing myself say "Frodo". Well, he does often mention that fans keep calling him that.... and I am adamant about the necessity of distinguishing the real person and the fictional character, of course. So making a slip-up like that because my brain decided to choose *that* very moment to stop working properly would be awful. Not that I think I'd ever do that, no matter what; - and anyway I'd be more likely to just stand there, gaping, unable to get one single word (or squeak) out. All in all I think, if anyone here gets to meet him exept for Sharon and Penn, it should be someone with more self-possession than I have. I'll just live vicariously through your tales afterwards.

But Frodo, now, my alter ego Maeg doesn't mind meeting *him* any time, anywhere and under any circumstances.

Strange, but at present I am very calm about what we'll get in RotK. New spoilers might alter that, perhaps, but just now.... I believe it will be utterly heartwrenching, and very painful to watch. That's what I read into the comments about "destruction of the soul". The thing I *am* wondering about is why these action ficures in orc gear keep sporting the One Shirt. PJ'd better not mess too much with CU!

Oh, I forgot.... I'm calm, here. No worries. It'll be wonderful. It will be the film experience of a life time. (Repeat 100 times or as often as required)

Safe travel and happy holidays to haremites going on vacation. Happy hooting to the hooters! And a very nice weekend to everyone else!

Ooops!

Well, I quoted but the message got sent before I could fill in my comments. Darn these split keyboards! Anyhoo, I was going to say that although I live, sleep and breathe Elijah's Frodo on a daily basis, there was no confusing the young man with the character he creates for the screen. They are very very different beings. Both wonderful in every way, but different. It's the difference that amazes me. Although I did hear a few fan girls yell "Frodo" at the signing, too.

Like Maeg, I'd be lucky to get a word out. Since viewing a photo of EW (as Frodo or himself) can send my brain into a frenzy, coupled with the fact that I can be incredibly shy, I have no doubt I would be totally dumbstruck and come across as a total idiot! (Or I would hyperventilate - I'm good at that too!) Now if I could just have a magic ring and be invisible........

Having made similar assumptions in the past, I must warn -- Hooting doesn't seem to slow our thread down (that) much ... Just makes more room for some of our quieter Haremites to re-delurk.

I finally finished reading the posts which took place during my vacation ... Unfortunately, all comments I'd jotted down whilst reading everything, are still at work ( ) Will have to defer my unearthing of weeks-old random topics for some later time I guess!!

Although I must say that while Frenzies were being mentioned -- one of my favorites was the Frenzy which took place when Ariel, Elda, and Narya (have I forgotten anyone else?) all managed to get 'early' copies of the SE DVD last fall .... the near-frantic posts about their reactions, trying to be spoiler-free, and the definitely-frantic posts of the rest of us .... with Elda's comment about going out and howling at the moon .... !!! Definitely awesome. Even for those who, like me, knew we wouldn't have the SE DVD for several days *after* the rest of the Harem would have access.

Hmmm .... I would like to meet EW, because I respect his work as an actor, especially in how he managed to 'become' Frodo -- and also because his behavior and friendships with the cast and crew from LOTR reminds me very much of friendships I have ... I've got a couple sets of male friends who interact in much the same way (both the wrestling and the intimate friendships etc.). So I feel some sort of bizarre kinship there? Call me wacky, I know it's true!! ........And I do think I could keep Frodo/Frolijah separate from EW himself. Although from what I've heard of seeing him in person, I'd still be bowled over by the sheer beauty he possesses .... Since I have delusions of being taller than I am, I'd probably very quickly decide that he's way short, despite his good looks, and feel like an Amazon next to him.

I have no idea though whether I'd devolve into a screaming fangurl though ... I think some things are hard to predict -- I'd like to think I would remain level-headed, but don't know whether that'd be the case or not???

Yeah, so we're all innocently meeting up at the bar to go to dinner, and waiting for Queenie to release her Frodoll from his cardboard cage, and Goldie nonchalantly pulls out Frodo-in-orc-armour bloody action figure! *sigh* It's beautiful. A dozen+ women shrieked with glee, garnering a record number of Strange Looks™.

Spork successfully tied a cherry stem with her tongue. Right now she's wearing Stormy's beautiful Eowyn dress. I somehow suspect Stormy will have a fight on her hands getting it back.

The envy, the envy, the eeenvy !! WHERE did Goldie get hold of that? Would they, by any unlikely chance have started selling it in select stores? Like London's "Forbidden Planet"? Because then I could get one when I'm there in 2 weeks' time, before heading on to the UK Hoot. Opaline, yes, I'll see you soon!

I haven't even been seeing *old* series LOTR action figures lately...and I've been making a point of looking whenever I'm in a likely store. I've never even seen a "glowing sting" Frodo .
We wants to see angsty Fro in Orc Armour, we does!

(Tonight there are these *enormous* beetles crashing around on the deck outside the office which would scare the armour off even the most determined action figure. (Even my Frodoll (ELF) refuses to go out to investigate, suggesting one of his worthy companions would be better suited for the challenge...and I don't blame him...I ain't afeared of bugs, but these guy are really huge, and make quite a racket banging into things out there.)

Europanya, I'm not quite in Southern CA, but I've been known to get down there...(I'm nearer Fresno; cooking in the evil heat this week.)

(((Pearl))) Thanks! It's good to put in an appearance .

And thank you, Elevensies; I'm pleased to see we'll be getting some "live coverage" of the Hoot .

Orc Armor Fro

She got it in TARGET, Maeg, just stumbled on him. He is really wonderful.

As for the Hooters, we are wonderful, too We have 14 Haremites and 16 Frodolls in attendance, as well as HALFling and an assortment of action figures. Ghyste brought Gimlidoll, who is way more precious that I would think. Yesterday was filled with arrivals, squeals, hugs, checking into the hotel, and of course, gabbing. At one point we had 9 haremites AND their luggage in two mid-sized sedans. Cozy is perhaps too mild a term, even, for that part of the trip. We went to a fun restaraunt for supper called Buca's (that's the shortened version, I canna remember the whole name) which is a family-style italian place. It snowed food and rained drink, of course, and all were filled with food and wine (although poor Chica, goddess of the Hoot, nearly lost all of her dinner when she passed her plate down for some ravioli. Those of us at the other end thought it was a serving dish and we started pilfering her chicken!) The hotel is lovely and we are all on the same floor

Despite spending all of Thursday afternoon and evening on a Greyhound (a smooth and pleasant ride, for the most part), I stayed up gabbing until about 1:30 and I am wide awake now (7:30). Seems like adreneline is always pleantiful at these things.

More later, natch.

Rosie

p.s.(IN ADDITION to Eowyn's dress? Stormy has a scarf made out of the elven cloak material! WAY friggin cool!)

Frodo in furry orc pants.

The envy, the envy, the eeenvy !! WHERE did Goldie get hold of that? Would they, by any unlikely chance have started selling it in select stores?

I got my little furry orc-pants wearing Frodo at Comic Con. They were selling the whole line of ROTK figures. But I only had enough extra cash for the one. I wanted a Sam, too, but he was sold out by noon the first day of the Con! Sniffle. My Frodo is lonely. Hope to find him a Sam soon.

And for the record, I can't tell what kind of shirt he's wearing under all that. If it's his own or not. I'm gonna bite the bullet and say it's something else. Orcish. Or maybe I'm just in Frodo-must-be-naked denial.

The hallways of BEWTE are echoing again due to the absence of the hooting haremites.

Once again Frodo is here almost ALL ALONE...... with me......

EW... Nostril actor extraordinaire!
The crew begins to break up and Elijah looks over at Dom and gets this little minx grin and says "I'm going for it!"And to everyone's shock leaps out of the curtain and sprints down the convention concourse as fast as his little legs can carry him (which is
damn fast) whooping with glee while three security guards all in black race after him followed by the entire line of screaming fans. Elijah, essentially escaped. 'A Hard Day's Night'? No. Lij at ComicCon.

The operative word being almost. We had a most lovely walk beside (in!) the stream today, and then a very nice snuggle beneath the linden tree. Our clothes got rather wet during a game of 'I am NOT splashing, YOU are", so I have a little laundry to do now. Have a lovely evening with him, Hobmom.

I should have known Spork would be able to tie cherry stems with her tongue.
