Congratulations Rosie & Hewene on snaffling OA Sam. He's very cute with that stern look and the Vulcan eyebrows, but I'm afraid my heart is given to angsty OA Frodo - which is really saying something, given how angst-averse I usually am!

MrG: Congratulations on the new location. I've been waiting to hear that ever simnce we met
Hewene: It's always nice to be appreciated.
Narya: Hope the news on the scan is good. In the meantime, keep thinking smutty Frodo thoughts - those are best done with your eyes closed!
Rosie: Back-to-school best wishes - even if it's a month early for this country!
Chica: If you'd been at the Brit Hoot we couldn't have gossiped about you

hello every one.. every time I try to find a frodo or any other figure here they are all gone.. the only thing left is Uruks and Orcs... and though I am sure they would have their uses they are not quite the same....oh and 1 Theoden...

I am really looking foreward to going to seattle next year to see and meet you all..

as for temperatures.. it has been 101 here..we only have hot weather for a few days.. but right now it is annoying.. because I am on oxygen.. I am longing for rain.. whoever has some could they send it my way.. here in Oregon...

Thank you all, Haremites, for the bountiful Birthday greetings!! I am truly touched. And as is only proper for a hobbit, I have virtual gifts for all--cheesecake, of course. although, if I were able, I would send squeezie-thigh-Frodo to everyone, keeping one for myself, of course..

Posting and Running....

Is anyone else having massive computer troubles today?

My computer has been rebooting all #)($_#) day. And I won't bore you with stories of the repeated phone calls I made to my dial up server...my blood pressure must be up a hundred points.

Right now I'm installing a patch from the microsoft site, hoping that will help--if only my computer won't kick out on me.

"Yes, install this patch."

But what if my computer cuts out and it won't let me?

"Too bad for you. We'll send you a disk. Take six to eight weeks."

On a happier note, Happiest of Birthdays to Angelica.

Happy Birthday, Angelica! And welcome back, even if I didn't know you the first time

Congratulations to Rosie for finding OAF and OAS! Our Target never has such lovely little delicacies I feel your pain in re: school starting. Orientation for us is this Wednesday, and we start on the 20th. Six days before the DVD comes out! How can New Line do this to me? Sigh.

I've never seen that in bookmark form before, Merewyn! Where did you get it? Guess I can poke around on ebay for that as well as Sting and a Frodoll and Merry and Pippin bookmark . . . at self

I've managed to corr--, um, convert the next generation! Most of my family has been visiting, and last night we got to watch Fellowship. My two youngest cousins loved it; they wanted to watch it again today I've let them 'borrow' the unextended version of Fellowship; there's no way I'm parting with my SE DVD. It was wonderful to see their fresh reactions to the things that, though I still love them, have ceased to surprise me. Cousin Sara jumped a mile when Bilbo tried to get the ring in Rivendell (And, no, I didn't notice their reaction when Frodo was unbottoning his shirt. I was a bit preoccupied at the moment.)
Also, I've finally convinced my grandma to read the books! I let her borrow my reference copies; there's no way I'm parting with my movie-cover books!

((((Narya)))) Good luck with the test results. Maybe they'll let you keep the pictures of the scan with the 'hunk of burning love' on them

((((Lily)))) I hate it when that happens! Good luck getting your computer to work again!

HS, Lily - my computer kept rebooting all morning when I was trying to donate money to Moggy. Will have another shot in a minute.

Bookmarks - I had a check in my local bookstore and they have one left of Merewyn's, quite a few of mine (Sam and Frodo in angsty Fellowship gear), as well as Merry 'n Pippin and Gandalf and Eomer and Eowyn. If you want one, PM me and I'll go in first thing Saturday and nab 'em.

Maeglian, your filk has me picturing Frodo dressed as Thenardier.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANGELICA!

There's a handful of the Frodo bookmarks at my nearest bookstore, just one of Peachy's Sam & Frodo (also gorgeous) and assorted Eomer, Eowyn, Aragorn, Gandalf and Uruk-hai! There may even be a Faramir. What Peachy said, ditto.

HELLO & HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ANGELICA

Narya, hoping for good news from the scan
RosieC, good luck for the new school year
Anais, house-warming hugs
(((finafyr))), may you soon have some rain

Just thought I'd let folks know that I heard on the news this morning that this re-boot issue is actually a virus that exploits a weakness in Windows. There's a patch available from Microsoft.com to prevent it. Not sure if it works once you've got it, but it's worth trying. What version do you guys have? I have XP, and haven't had a problem, but you never know...

Hewene

edit: it's not listed as an "Update" to Windows, it's actually under "Security" as a security alert. Here's a link to the Alert:

http://microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp

Hope that helps.

BORING STUFF:

Keep that virus software udated people! (I had 57 viruses on my pc one time) one caused terrible problems. I use Norton Anti virus now, and pay the 20 bucks a year to keep udated with the latest definitions. My pc does live upadate online now, and does a scan everynight. It has caught quite a few nasty bugger viruses, and quarantined them, them I have the pleasure of deleting them.

Ahhhh...peace.

{{{Hewene}}}--thanks for the info. Yes, I was installing that patch last night, and thank heavens it DID work. I have XP as well and let me tell you I was at my wits end. I feel sorry for the people that couldn't get on the internet at all to download it. Queenie--we have a few anti-virus programs--this one just got through I guess. I think the problem was not keeping my XP software up to date. As time allows, I'm going to be hitting the Microsoft site and updating my software regularly. In addition to the patch I installed last night I also installed a service pack they recommend and because I have dial up it took me two hours (for some reason the virus couldn't kick me off while I was downloading--thank heaven for small blessings.)

The site did a scan and found 39 updates I should have. So if I do two a day I should be up to date in a few weeks.

And Maeglian, I meant to tell you I loved the filk, and I'm not a big musical person. LOVED IT.

Boring computer stuff.....

Yes my XP was acting oddly but it didn't reboot. I download those updates when they pop up .......usually. Now I see why it's a good idea. I think the anti-virus thing came installed on this thing... I know it scans my emails.

Still SOMETHING was going on with stuff online for the last few days and I figured there must be a virus running around messing up everything. Didn't this happen about the same time last year, too?

Belated Happy birthday, Angelica! And welcome back!

(((Brit Hooters))) Good to know that you had a wonderful time. Not that there was ever doubt in my mind that you would!

Thank you for kind wishes, and yes: I'm much better and could go back to work today. Life is pretty annoying sometimes. But luckily positive surprises are equally likely to occur - hoping for one of those next time. And hoping the same for you, (((Narya))) - when you get the results from those scans!

Spork, I hope your KC trip aftermath will blow over real fast without too much turbulence!

Peachy - well, you may envisage Frodo dressed as Thenardier (hopefully sans the red nose), but I hope you'll never ever think of him like Madame Thenardier says of her husband in that song:
"Thinks he's quite a lover, but there's not much there!"
Thanks for nice words, everyone!

Brief aside, since several have mentioned they don't know the Les Mis song: "Master of the House" is an all-ensemble number that is the comedy highlight of Les Mis. An innkeeper and his guests describe the many shortcomings of his inn; the horrible food, the terrible service, the lice in the beds, the many ways guests are ripped off and cheated; - while the innkeeper's wife bemoans her husband's many shortcomings and reviles him mightily. That's partly why I had such fun writing this particular filk - the BEWTE version is the exact opposite of the original, lyrics-wise.

I simply *love* Les Mis (novel and musical) and know the tunes and lyrics quite well - hence various Maeg-filks based on that musical.

Where is it possible to order OAF online? Could someone please PM me a link, I'd be so very grateful!
