Dear ladies, to see that angsty pic of Frodo AND the angsty one of Sam, plus many others, go here pronto.

That pic of Frodo is the very one that I mentioned that shows the bloody chain, except it's cut off too high to show it! Probably because it's seen as a pan from the chain to his face on the DVD and it's not ever on screen as one whole picture.

But they came at last to a glade open to the stars, and there Frodo stood and looked at them, and the light of Aman was in his face.... And for a moment he lifted up the Phial and looked down at his master, and the light burned gently now with the soft radiance of the evening-star in summer, and in that light Frodo's face was fair of hue again, pale but beautiful with an elvish beauty, as of one who has long passed the shadows. ~ The Two Towers

Peachy. Peachy. ***sob*** But it's the good kind of sobbing.

For those with iron deficiency - try taking dandelion root with your iron. Iron is notoriously hard for the body to absorb, so even when you're taking supplements it sometimes doesn't help. Dandelion root doesn't contain iron, but it increases absorption considerably. When I was anemic during my last pregnancy I took iron for two months with no change, except for lots of nausea. Then I stopped taking iron, and added dandelion root, and the absorption of iron from the food I ate every day was so high that I was up to normal iron levels in two weeks. (I don't recommend stopping the iron - I had to because of the nausea - but try adding dandelion root and see if that helps!)

**Spoiler speculation ahead**

I'm sure we'll get a canon CU in terms of the orcs stripping Frodo, but I do believe Sam will find his discarded clothes (sans the valuable Mithril shirt) and tenderly assist him back into them again. I really think that Sam easing Frodo's shirt over the whip weal on his back is such a perfect representation of their relationship at this point that PJ won't be able to resist. Besides, the angst factor is through the roof!

There is something so fitting in Frodo wearing the same clothes through to the end - the disintegration of his clothes mirroring the disintegration of his self as the burden of the ring deepens - that I will be perfectly happy to see his sallow dirty collar peeking out from under the orc armor.

Well, happy is perhaps the wrong word... **sob**

Edit: Meryl!! OME!! gasp, gurgle, whimper...

I love lavendar...we have a wonderful lavendar festival here on the Olympic Peninsula each year...but my favorite number one scent is amber.....A lady in our Northwesternesse group has some in a box and then was wearing an Amber-like scent when a huge group of us turned out for an outdoor showing of TTT the other night...every so often the wind would waft the scent over...talk about fitting in perfectly with LOTR and particularly Frodo.

Before I say anything else - I won't do a post with the lines in again! I was trying to figure out how to highlight the quoted bits so thanks to Hewene and Elevensies for their help!!! Much appreciated - just hope it works this time! Forgive me if it take me a few trys to get things right !!

And speaking of earlier fondly remembered frenzies did someone call for the B&W?

And if we're having sheep can we also have alpacas. Mm, Frodo in a nice soft alpaca wool sweater...or not.

BagEndBabe, you might like to blend a few drops of ylang-ylang and orange with your patchouli And on herbal scents I love rosemary. I have it along my front path and love to brush it with my hand and breathe in the fragrance. It also is lovely to have in the kitchen, not to mention mixed with a little olive oil and brushed over potato wedges and with lamb.

OMG Brunhild's picture is amazing ... the poor, poor darling, it is going to be SO painful to watch.

Ahhhhh .... the black and white .... yes, I have it in at least two locations in my house! Beautiful .. and Frodo in an alpaca sweater, all soft and silky ... against his white satin skin .. then you can press up close to him and rest your cheek against the alpaca ... the sweater will have a low neck so your lips can find your way to his chest and up to his neck to nibble ...

Oh yes, Merewyn, I love ylang ylang! And frankinsense is another favourite .... and yes, rosemary is wonderful. We have recently moved house and up till now I have always had plenty of rosemary in the garden but there isn't any here - will have to get some planted. I love making deep cuts into a joint of lamb, pressing lots of rosemary in and maybe some garlic too - ooh it's wonderful!

That sounds wonderful EvFrodo!

I wish I knew of some Haremites my way - it would be so lovely to get together with some like-minded Fro-worshippers - I don't know any in the flesh, so to speak!!!

Waahhhhh!!! I'm feeling too melancholy to filk at the moment - normally that would inspire me - but my reaction to the Mt Doom pic made me want to copy in the following Hazel O'Connor lyrics - the song "Calls The Tune" from "Breaking Glass". It kind of describes my reaction to seeing that photograph of Frodo - and as I am picturing Hazel's brilliant performance and the way her voice chokes as she sings this, it seems almost an insult to try and filk something so perfect. So here is the original. Hazel's character, Kate, writes this just after seeing someone stabbed to death in a race riot in the early 80's - something which, added to coercion from her new producer and doctor and the enormous stresses put upon her to perform and ride the media wave after this - leads to her breakdown at the end of the film (ending with her determination to climb back up in the last song, "If Only", (which I did filk, some time ago).

Who calls the tune, says what's right or wrong - that seems to me so apt when applied to what happens at Mount Doom; not all have the luxury of keeping their consciences clean, especially when commanded to walk into temptation. I'd like to send this to the pillock who said that Frodo should have been hung for treason for his "decision" at Mount Doom.

(Sob)

I worship Hazel O'Connor!!

Calls the Tune

Well, I saw your face in a photograph
Cried so much, I nearly laughed
You never really had the chance
To question why did you live some to cry some and die?

Who, what and how writes the song, calls the tune
Says what's right and wrong
Writes the song, calls the tune
Says what's right and wrong

Oh, I'd have caught your eyes, but my hands were tied
Was it truth? Was it lies?
Many words of truth are spoken in jest
Who would have guessed that, or trust that? What a mess!

Who, what and how writes the song, calls the tune
Says what's right and wrong
Writes the song, calls the tune
Says what's right and wrong

Who, what and how writes the song, calls the tune
Says what's right and wrong
Writes the song, calls the tune
Says what's right and wrong

Who, what and how writes the song, calls the tune
Says what's right and wrong
Writes the song, calls the tune
Says what's right and wrong

Who, what and how writes the song, calls the tune
Says what's right and wrong
Writes the song, calls the tune
Says what's right and wrong

[fade out]

(Back to my Phil Daniels and "Breaking Glass" frenzy).

Niphredil - sob. That's so sad.

Peachy, that was lovely..... evoking such a quiet melancholy mood of remembered happiness.

I *have* to go back to the angsty picture for a moment to say: (ie. spoilery swooning comments follow!)

*
*
*
The Ring may take everything else from Frodo, but it doesn't destroy his beauty, even in Mordor. Despite the dirt and scabs..... he's beautiful.

That lovely ear.....

And I wonder about those drops of water. They don't look like tears, and it doesn't rain in Mordor...... ?

RotK will affect me very much. Good to have all of you!

Water drops ...

It couldn't be Sam trying to get him to drink, could it? I think he'd be very careful not to spill it, but maybe Frodo's not able to swallow it ...

However, isn't he leaning against a rock with some snow on it? I'm a bit confused ...

(((((Peachy))))) - my dad used to sing that song! It felt a bit surreal to see a filk of it - but appropriate and touching at the same time!

With the DVD coming out next week, I figure it's now or never for me to post this minor opus. So, with a :notworthy: bow to the fair Persica and companion goddesses, I offer you, for your diversion:

THESE ARE THE TIMES THAT TRY HAREMS’ SOULS: A Play in Five Scenes

SCENE 1: On-set for the reshoots of TTT in New Zealand. The Harem are tucked snugly into Frodo’s trailer helping him relax between takes, massaging his neck and shoulders while enjoying the stocked mini-bar.

Harem (moodily): New Line. The one studio in Middle-earth we don’t want to write any new scenes, and the one studio that’s trying to. Let’s face it, Frodo, we’re lost. We don’t think the Professor meant for us to come this way.

Frodo: He didn’t mean for a lot of things to happen, loves... but they did.

Harem: This looks strangely familiar.

Frodo: It’s because we’ve been here before! These reshoots are endless.

Harem: Ah! What's that horrid cologne? I'll warrant there's a nasty marketing executive nearby. Can you smell him?

Frodo: Yes. I can smell him. (Whispers) We’re not alone.

(Frodo motions the Harem to be quiet and moves next to the trailer door, flattening himself against the wall. He draws Sting part way. It glows blue.)

New Line Exec (Outside, pressing his ear to the door): They’re fans! They’re fans! They’re filthy little fans! Where are they? They’ll turn him from us. Our Preciousss. Curse them! We hates them! He’s ours, he is... and we ownsss him!

(Frodo opens the door quickly, and the Exec falls sprawling on the floor. The Harem move quickly to shut it and block his escape.)

Frodo (grimly): This is The Harem. You’ve seen them before, haven’t you? Get up now or they’ll cut your throat!

(The Harem step forward. The Exec gets to his knees slowly, a piteous wail forming in his throat.)

ROTK Spoiler pics...

All spoilers ahead for ROTK:

I just had to pop in and weep a bit in tandem with the rest of the crowd. I'd had the chance to see some of these images a while back, but I hadn't seen them all together. I knew the shot of Sam looking quite upset was going to be a still shot on the DVD, but I never saw it in sequence before. And now comparing it to my ROTK promo calendar, it hits me.....this is Sam post-Shelob. I WISH I could see his neck a little better for some evidence of a chain...but, but, waaaaaaahh! I'm all coming apart now. This is grief-Sam, it has to be. BWaaaaaalllf.

Kleenex....must buy more kleenex....and yes Frodo maintains that stunning beauty even in the depths of Mordor. This film is gonna take years off my life. Well worth it, too.

SCENE 2: Frodo’s trailer, a short while later. The Exec finishes reading a script and throws it down.

Exec: It sucks! It sucks! Nasty fans twisted it. Lousy purists!

Harem: Quiet you! (Exec weeps loudly) It’s hopeless! Everyone in Wellington’s going to hear this racket! Let’s just tell them he approved it.

Exec: No! They would sack us! Sack us!

Harem: It’s no more than you deserve!

Frodo: Maybe he does deserve dismissal, but now that I see him, I do pity him.

Exec (wheedling): We be nice to them if they be nice to us. We does a rewrite. We swears to do what you wants. We swears.

Harem: There’s no promise you can make that we can trust.

Exec: We swears to serve the Harem of the Preciousss. We swears on the... on the Precious. (Looks adoringly at Frodo. The Harem melt.)

Frodo: The public is treacherous. It will hold you to your word.

Exec: (pawing at Frodo’s sleeve) Yes... on the Preciousss. On the Preciousss…..

Harem: We don’t believe you! (Exec jumps up on the couch and tries to escape through the window.) Get down! Get down! (The Harem pull him back onto the couch and sit on him.)

Frodo: Ladies!

Harem: He’s trying to trick us! We let him go, he’ll get us thrown off the set!

(Frodo approaches the frightened Exec.)

Frodo: You know the way to New Line?

Exec: (warily) Yes...

Frodo: You’ve been there before?

Exec: Yes....

(Frodo opens the trailer door.)

Frodo (in a deep voice): You will lead us to the Studio Gate.

SCENE 3: The New Line Offices in Wellington

Exec: The Black Gate of New Line!

(An enormous black studio gate comes into view, patrolled by security guards with walkie-talkies.)

Harem: Save us! The dear Professor'd have a thing or two to say if he could see us now.

Exec: Harem says to show them the way to New Line, so good Exec does. Master says so.

Frodo: I did.

(A muscle-bound guard recognizes The Exec. After a whispered conversation, they are waved in. They enter an imposing lobby with black marble floors. A secretary is seated at a huge, forbidding desk flanked by Security.)

Harem: Well, that’s it then. We cannot get past that.

(The Exec flashes an I.D. card. Frodo bats his eyes at the secretary. She blushes and smiles, then buzzes them in. Frodo pauses and looks back to see the Harem following.)

Frodo: I do not ask you to come with me, ladies.

Harem: We know, dearest Frodo. We doubt even these heaving bosoms will serve us in there.

(They all enter the Inner Sanctum.)

SCENE 4: Gandalf’s Office, an hour later

(The Harem and Frodo are sitting morosely around Gandalf’s desk. He drops an official-looking script from which he has been reading onto his desk with an ominous thump.)

Gandalf: This is but a taste of the terror that New Line will unleash. All the more potent, for they are driven mad by fear of Box Office. (He leans closer.) Write in and meet them head on! Draw them away from more Arwen and less Fro. You must fight!

Frodo: Open war is upon us. Whether we would risk it or not.

Harem (grimly): When last we looked, Tolkien, not New Line, was author of this story.

Frodo (surveying the Harem): You have some skill with a pen.

Harem (proudly): Women of BEWTE learned long ago that those without pens may still speak loudly. We fear neither death nor pain.

Frodo: What do you fear, my ladies?

Harem: Real Life. To stay behind desks until use and old age accept them and all chance of swooning has gone beyond recall or desire.

Frodo (with great love): You are the Harem of the Squire, Hobbitlasses of BEWTE. I do not think that will be your fate.

SCENE 5: Some days later, back at Frodo’s trailer.

(PJ solemnly addresses Frodo and the Harem, after reluctantly giving them back their rejected script.)

PJ: The fans cannot hold back this storm. We must weather such things as we have always done.

Harem: How can that be your decision!?

PJ: This is not your war.

Harem: But you're part of this world! Aren’t you? You must help, please! You must do something!

(PJ sighs deeply, as one who carries a great burden, then speaks to them gently but firmly.)

PJ: You are fair and brave, Frodo’s Harem. But your part in this tale is over. Go back to your thread.

(He hugs each one of them, clasps Frodo’s hand with emotion, then leaves, closing the door quietly behind him.)

Harem (darkly): The cult of Arwen will spread. And the words of Frodo and Faramir will fade. And all that was once hot and swoony in this world will be gone. There won't be a Harem, Frodo.

Frodo (with tender regret): I know. It’s all wrong. But it’s like in the Professor’s stories, my dears. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy?

But in the end, this film is only a passing thing. A new day will come. And when the Books are read, they will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. Because they were holding on to something.

(Through tears, the Harem smile fondly at their Beloved.)

Harem: Yes, we know, dearest Fro. There are some great swoons in those Books. And they’re worth fighting for.

(Frodo opens his arms wide and the Harem draw toward him for a group hug. The lights slowly fade.)

THE END

((((((((FRODO)))))))) ((((((((HAREM))))))))

How very hobbitlike of you, Ellin! And I'm sure a concerned Frodo will come and fish you out of the pantry and dust off your skirts and fuss over you and pet you like the dear kind sweet gentlehobbit he is.

ROTK Spoilers - Warning
Gimme gimme gimme spoilers, I live for spoilers, precious. But I'm aware we need to be sensitive to spoiler-sensitive Haremites, so please highlight this spoilerish text for spoilerish discussion about spoilerish pictures:

Sweet heavens above. Sad fading Fro and an anguished looking Sam. Oh my lordy. ROTK is going to trash me. As for the great will-the-orcs-strip-Frodo debate, PJ will do what PJ does, whether or no. I have just about managed to cope with everything else PJ has thrown at me, I'll ride this one out too. All I can say is, ROTK is boding bloody well, IMO.

That Angsty ROTK Frodo is one of the most gravely beautiful things I've ever seen. I mean it. Makes me feel all quiet inside. I'm in awe.

Bravo,Meryl,bravo!!!!!!

That should be sent to Sauron's ..oops... I mean Bob Shaye's office post haste!

Brilliant!!! A harem uprising is in the works. And it could be more terrifying than the Last March of the Ents.

Was this caused primarily by that pic of Arwen all pouty and blue?

At least there was only ONE Arwen pic...maybe from her ONE scene??? We hopesess.

The crew begins to break up and Elijah looks over at Dom and gets this little minx grin and says "I'm going for it!"And to everyone's shock leaps out of the curtain and sprints down the convention concourse as fast as his little legs can carry him (which is
damn fast) whooping with glee while three security guards all in black race after him followed by the entire line of screaming fans. Elijah, essentially escaped. 'A Hard Day's Night'? No. Lij at ComicCon.

ROTK Spoiler Talk

Don't mind pouty blue Arwen. This Haremite is not that much of an Arwen-basher.

Everybody else in ROTK is looking upset, so why shouldn't Arwen?

And who cares, when FRODO AND SAM ARE LOOKING SO DAMN FINE AND ANGSTY?

I agree with Europanya: that is Sam post-Shelob. Look at the grief and determination on his face. *Sob*

And Frodo is so beautiful even in the depths of filth ...

PJ seems on course to deliver me full-on Frodo-angst.

I love Frodo, I love Sam, and right now I love PJ.

Meryl, in all seriousness, I can forward this to New Line in two clicks of my mouse. Would you mind? I think they'd get a kick out of it. Each year my husband comes up with these joke illustrations for "proposed extended DVD gift pack trinkets," one for FOTR and TTT, both times the joke illustrations have wound up at WETA. RT loves this stuff. Leah just sent him her Shireborn Rogues series and that's hanging up at WETA now, too.

I think this is a riot! They're not particularly fond of Arwen themselves.

Honestly, if it hadn't been for Meryl's play in five acts, I would definitely be in the middle of a nervous breakdown. I'm not out of the woods yet, though. I'm going to have to watch something mind-numbing on TV like Temptation Island to keep those rip-my-heart-out-of-my-rib-cage-still-beating-and-run-it-through-the-disposal melancholy pictures out of my mind's eye. (And this is from the haremite who only cried once watching FOTR, at the Vermont Hoot, when she'd already had half a bottle of wine.)

Ahem. On a lighter note, I was at work today and my coworker's 10-year-old daughter came in. She saw my LOTR calendar and said, "Oh, you like Lord of the Rings?" and I said yes, and she said, "You look like one of those people." I didn't ask what she meant.

Rosie, I will PM you. Lily, feel free to give me a call!

edit: just went to have another look at the pictures and it looks as though they may have been taken down, I can't link to them anymore. The water trickling from Frodo's mouth is engraved on my memory though. It does look as though Sam may have been trying to get him to drink. *sob*
