Oh My Eru. I am officially, totally DEAD.

I've been without Internet access for 2 days because of virus discussed above. Why can't these creative types do something worthwhile with their brains?

So I log on, finally, to this...this embodiment of beautiful sacrifice.

I've been collecting LOTR movie posters, as those who have visited my home will attest, but this...THIS...I cannot put up on a wall! It will kill me!

Waaahhhhh!!!

P.S. Lily, I just had to nick a comment from your last post for my sig.

Sheryl, hmp! Are you trying to make me lose my tenacious remaining grip on reality?

There is only one thing that can make that poster seem even more heartwrenching, and that is by looking at

This (Warning - No spoiler here; - but may cause heart palpitations even so!)

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Look, I've just entered BEWTE to relax, and sit by the fireplace, calming my poor RL shattered nerves, as in three hours I'm going to call to US and tell the person I've been in love with for 8 years about my feelings (That's another long sad rant, Elenya!). I'm scared stiff, BTW. ( VERY *brave* Maia I am! ) And what do I see?..........

THE PICTURE

Ellin's nerves snap one after another, and she falls over the tea table, her hand missing cheesecake by the inches.

P.S. I DO hope someone will be able to revive me before it's 5 am my time!

Now I'm sitting here in front of my computer weeping and sobbing like a little girl.

I don't know how I'm going to take this

Oh yes, definitely Frodo's essense there. I just put the teaser poster and pre-quest picture someone posted side-by-side for contrast....wow!

IMHO, I think he still looks alive here....though barely...

That poster is absolutely amazing. What a powerful image. An 'embodiment of beautiful sacrifice' as Goldie so aptly put it.

That really is Frodo as I see him.

And as erendis says, it's a very bold image for New Line to be putting up, and it bodes VERY well for ROTK, I think.

See? We were all gabbing about bugs and then New Line hits us with this. Classic pre-frenzy stuff.

Except this isn't a frenzy, because we are all in awe.

Heartbreaking juxtaposition of images, Maeglian.

PS. On a more frivolous note, I am most impatient to acquire an Orc Armour Frodo and Sam. They're SO cute.

Yes, ITA with Pearl. I'm pleased beyond pleased that they've taken that picture and made a poster of it. I MUST HAVE IT. About frickin' time Fro got the respect that is his due. Yes. Yes. Am nearly incoherent with it all.

7.15am. Start reading the overnight posts. What is this poster? mustn't crack mustn't give in

30 seconds later. Everyone going nuts mustn't crack mustn't crack even though it's a poster and I'll see it

10 seconds later. Read Meryl's comment.

Crack.

Download poster.

Oh, God.

Michelangelo would have loved him.

Look at pre-Quest Frodo.

Sigh.

PS. Meryl - did you let Europanya send on the parody? It was frickin' brilliant.

Where are all those people who ordered the TR DVD? Why haven't they posted the "good parts" version of the ROTK preview on some website yet?

I agree, totally, totally agree. That's exactly what I was thinking when I said the image was "harrowing" for a poster. Like Erendis said, I doubt we'll be seeing much of this one in the multiplex lobbies...can you imagine that sitting next to or hanging over a concession stand? ("Yes, I'll have the Value-Size Pepsi...the Goobers...and OH MY GOD WHAT IS THAT?!?") I can even imagine there could be some complaints from parents, especially here in the U.S., where most folks like their pop-culture images safe and squeaky-clean, their violence cartoonish and over-the-top. This is just so...raw, so real.

And yet, New Line did it...they took this image and made a poster out of it. Wow. Wow. I'm speechless. It is courageous, it's risky in the best possible way, and it really gives me hope that RoTK will be the same. Again, wow. Just...wow.

I really want to own this poster, but what would I do with it? I certainly wouldn't hang this anguish up in my living room, next to my Burne-Jones and my nice pencil sketches of the Maine countryside. But I really do want it because, as so many have said here...that is Frodo. I don't know where Elijah Wood went, but I don't see him. That's Frodo. At his greatest extremity and his most beautiful...did you ever in a million years think that anyone could capture Frodo so perfectly? Lord, but he brings tears to my eyes.

Bows down and worships PJ.
Bows down and worships Elijah Wood (even though he's not there).

Meryl is right...even if you're going spoiler-free, don't deny yourself the chance to look at this right now. It's worth it.

I will have to stay off the Net for nine days while everyone frenzies like it's 2001.

I can't stand it!

Edit: Sorry for the whinge, I need some cheesecake, I think.

Good question, Elda. Where would you put a poster like that? You'd need a shrine.

As I announced on the previous page THE POSTER ( I mean THAT has to be THE defining poster of the whole trilogy!) has officially made it necessary for the cheesecake season to begin. We haven't had a pressing need for its restorative properties so much lately but as the pre-ROTK angst builds the cooks at BEWTE are bustling away frantically to keep up with the demand. At least 85 percent of us are still in a state of semi-conciousness and weeping hysterically. We better have a LOT more made by December!

Edit- Oh poor Patricia.... here's a double portion for you!

Yes, Elda, that is an incredibly brave thing New Line has done. Gods, that image is so painful, yet beautiful at the same time. It is difficult to look at, truly.

And yes, Chica dear, they finally do seem to have managed to give Frodo the respect he deserves...

That is about all the post I can muster right now. I am going to go curl up in a fetal position to hopefully alleviate the pain this poster has seemed to cause in me...

Thank you for organising the cheesecake, Hobmom. Am I still angsted up? Hell yes.

They went bereft of wizardry
Divided by one’s treachery
Who dearly paid for his betraying,
As Frodo fled, his will unswaying,
Within his soul a song of staying,
Resisting, battling against power,
Against the Ring, strength like a tower,
With trust unbroken, doomed to escape
Into a country shifting shape
Of snares eluded, deadly lairs,
of bloody flesh, the chain that tears.

Forth they went and struggled long,
Reeling and foundering, as e’er more strong
The Power swelled, and Frodo fought,
And courage great and love he brought
With Sam and Smeagol at his side.
Above in the gloom the Nazgul cried
Circling afar at Barad-dur,
While two with haunted eyes endured
The rocks that bit at foot and hand,
Their mouths parched in a barren land.

Still the gloom gathers; fear was growing
Upon the Stairs, the dark blood flowing
Beside the webs, where Shelob slew
Her victims, and brave Samwise drew
The Elvish blade, but all hope pales
in bitter hell. The wind wails,
The burden grows. Their dooms are twined,
It drinks his sweat, and burns his mind,
A place of torment, ash and thorn,
Thunder rumbles, a whispered ‘Shire’ –
And Frodo crawls towards the Fire.

The effect of that poster is absolutely devastating and inspiring. I don't know when I've loved Frodo more... or the darling that portrays him.

It made me finish off the last chapter of my current Fic. Because Frodo 'needed' it to be written. Or I needed to write it because of that poster.

I have never been so proud of PJ or ......dare I say it... NL ... as I am since they issued that poster. It is the heart and soul of this incredibly soul-dredging and inspirational tale that has moved many of us for decades.

I have no more words..... OK, stop that clapping!

Pass the cheesecake! I need a mega dose of double chocolate with two dollops of whipped cream, please.

EW... Nostril actor extraordinaire!
The crew begins to break up and Elijah looks over at Dom and gets this little minx grin and says "I'm going for it!"And to everyone's shock leaps out of the curtain and sprints down the convention concourse as fast as his little legs can carry him (which is
damn fast) whooping with glee while three security guards all in black race after him followed by the entire line of screaming fans. Elijah, essentially escaped. 'A Hard Day's Night'? No. Lij at ComicCon.

"There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow men. True nobility lies in being superior to your former self.”-Elijah

"But the enthusiasm of the fans is great though. And I'll thank the lord if they are female and originate from Spain!" Elijah in Spanish interview

I just saw THE POSTER about an hour ago and have been catching up on all the comments since then. The great recurring theme in this thread is NL's chutzpah in releasing it as an official image to be shown in public. I think we need to LET THEM KNOW just how much we appreciate their gutsy action. I know some of their people cruise the websites (I'm sure this one is on someone's list ) but it woudn't hurt to give them an official pat on the back. Too often we spend the time and energy grousing and nit-picking, while right now we have the perfect opportunity to do the opposite.

Eglerio! Praise them with Great Praise!

Besides, if NL and PJ get enough feedback, ROTK may end up with a few more minutes of Frodo/Sam in Mordor than might have been originally planned. Remember: although the actors have all finished their pick-up shots, PJ is still cutting this film, and nothing is final until it gets sent to NL.

Yes indeed -- right on cue.

Re: THE POSTER -- Not much to add to what everyone's said except to say "I agree ... Yes ... Yep ... I agree again ...", and to cross my fingers that erendis is proved right.

Nivina: Can you tell us where you got that picture you posted? This might help us work out what it is and whether it's "official". (It looks a bit like a photomanip or photo-realistic fan art to me, rather than a photo.)

Meryl: These lines were made all the more poignant for me by the fact that I was sitting at my desk at work when I first read them:
quote:
Frodo: What do you fear, my ladies?

Harem: Real Life. To stay behind desks until use and old age accept them and all chance of swooning has gone beyond recall or desire.

And to lower the tone of this post somewhat ( ) ...
quote:
Hewene: I did, however, notice the nicely molded buns and bulge *under* the chainmail. (Oi! Don't ask)...
Don't worry, you're not the only doll-perv around. My sensitive little mind was warped at an early age by exposure to Ken's (admittedly ill-defined) "equipment", and I haven't been able to resist checking out the trouser-department on male dolls since.

PS: Thanks to Elda, Hobmom & Hewene for the warning about the new virus. I got caught with the other one earlier this week, so I'm very keen to avoid any more!
