But of course...Been on the case for over a week, dear Gorby. Who else? See Faculty and Hugs. But we are waiting with baited breath...well me anyway... for further news so if anyone hears anything about Elwood's tummy please post it in Hugs.

Now HAS the letter been sent to NL? Has Europanya completed her mission?

I will button slut(still prefer term... beg) on Tuesday when I pick up my DVD at Blockbuster. Though this one is terrbily short on such goodies. But maybe a I can smuggle out a Fro standee if they have one. I can see it now...."Mommy..Lookit the funny lady with two heads!" "No dear that's just a poor demented haremite with a SUCCOF stuffed in her tee-shirt."

I already have enough Tolkien stuff in my bedroom "

Ooh you lucky thing! I will have to keep looking for one of these!!! I suppose it's easy to forget that there are not REALLY that many Fro-obsessed people around .... it's only because we all think that way that we assume everybody is of the same mind!!!! In actual fact, probably not THAT many people want a stand-up Fro, although it is hard for us to imagine!!!!

I want one to put beside my other standee Fro's!

This letter comes from a group of people who especially admire and are inspired by the character of Frodo from The Lord of the Rings. We post in a large Online Tolkien community. (not TORN!)

The point of this letter is really very simple. We wanted to thank you for the very gutsy move you made when you chose the image of a suffering Frodo for one of your Teaser posters for The Return of the King. In the opinion of many of the members of our online community, this powerful image is extremely moving, disturbing, emotional, and embodies the sense of suffering and beautiful sacrifice that is the essence of Frodo’s heroism and the central theme of The Lord of the Rings.

It’s a bold image, but not a “pretty” one. It is raw and it is real. People will react strongly to it. We certainly did. And that is by no means a small or a bad thing.

Once again, we’d just really like to thank you for risking such a courageous action. Not everyone would have done that. It truly has given us a sense of hope and wonder that The Return of the King will be a powerful and moving experience. Thanks for helping us see that hope. It’s going to be quite a ride.

With grateful thanks from a group of Frodo Admirers.

I posted a piece of the RotK preview that I transcribed over in the RotK trilogy thread, but I couldn't resist sharing this one bit, as I found it very encouraging that the major players seem to be focussing on what we want them to be focussing on for RotK:

PJ: The great thing with LotR, as well as these huge battle scenes, is you have the intimate story, the emotional story. And that’s where most of the power of RotK really lies.”

Mark Odesky: All the massing armies, Aragorn, Gandalf’s brilliant strategy, everything that happens is only about : can we buy Frodo a chance?

Phillipa Boyens: So you have this massive war on an external level. And on an internal level you have two little hobbits, Frodo and Sam, on their hands and knees, literally crawling up a mountain. It’s the relationship between these two characters that is the heart of the movie.

Is it December yet?

Hey everyone!

Sorry I vanished there for a spell. I'm really knocked over by a nasty cold virus right now...running fever...not keeping food down...blah blah...but I just heard back from my friend at NL and she's been out of town all week anyway, so I told her I had something I wanted to share with her when she gets back to the office on Monday.

So are we good on this now? Is everybody happy with the final letter? Reasonably happy? I'm happy. Sick, but happy.

Little spoilerish:

And yeah, I about died of happiness when I heard those lovely DVD preview comments about "the relationship between Frodo and Sam being at the heart of ROTK." They'd better be!!

Peachy - you were made for poetry and poetry was made for you! I really enjoyed that last one .

Isn't it great how limericks lend themselves to all sorts of personal expression? Never stop writing!

And as for that Frodo poster *sniffle*, I'm sure I'm not the first one who wants to kiss it and make it better for poor Frodo! Not that you can really kiss living through hell and expect it to go away , but still. He needs a bath, excessive cuddling, and probably more than a little therapy . Take good care of Frodo, Haremites, he needs you!

Euro, sorry you're feeling so poorly! I hope you're feeling better really soon! {{{{euro}}}}

As far as I know, the version of the letter near the top of this page (about 10 posts back) is the latest, greatest, go-for-it version! Thanks so much for doing this! I think we all appreciate you helping give us a "voice". *Do* let us know their reactions...

Peachy! (I'm not in the least surprised!)

Had a lovely, spontaneous time this evening. A friend called up. It was so lovely out, her husband was throwing her out of the house! He told her he'd watch the kids; she was to grab me and go *do something* (great idea! great guy ) We went to the local outdoor shopping mall (Meryl, you know whereof I speak) where we pigged out on loffly pizza and shopped. And it turned out there was an Art Fair going on there, too, so we took in some art, and bought crafty jewelry and goo-gahs, and I picked up a Charity brown teddy bear I may turn into a Sam bear... Altogether, a simple, lovely evening that reminds me of why life is good...

{{{{{{Harem}}}}}}} for those having not-so-good periods right now....

and just for a little angst...

after

PS, anyone who was unable to snag a copy of USA today for the ROTK article, here's a link to it online. I haven't read it so I don't know if it's spoilery or not, but I wanted to grab the link before it went off into archive-land.

Nearly a week after my return, am finally caught up, you gabby broads!! .... I'm glad the posts slowed down a little whilst the British Hoot was going on, at least! Selfish of me, I know.

Glad things smoothed over with the parental units in re: KC, Spork!

((Finafyr)) -- keep taking care of yourself, and thanks for all the lovely posts lately!

Glad to hear Lily and Narya have both had good luck looking for buttons ... I haven't looked, largely because where I live, it'd be silly to even try. The same would apply to looking for the TR TT DVD early. Not gonna happen here, nope! I'm in fact debating whether I should buy it, or rent it. I haven't watched the FotR TR since the SE DVD came out, and based on what I've heard about the 43 extra minutes on the TT SE DVD, am thinking I probably won't be watching the 'original' release that often either.... Not sure what I'll do....

Must share though, that as I was reading about 'snagging' buttons, I accidentally read "SHAGGING" buttons!

Tight hugs for Cion in re: her entirely-too-real day; and for Ellin too [I just made a chocolate raspberry truffle cake with fresh raspberries - basically a flourless chocolate cake, much like fudge with fresh berries -- you're welcome to as much as you'd like! ] .... And more ((hugs)) for Ariel, for the loss of Fred. I know how hard it is to lose a horse you love .... And ((hugs)) for Ghyste -- it sounds like you've probably had a pretty difficult week/weekend.

Nice to see some new Haremites ((BagendBabe)) ((EHL)) ((Winter, whom I've 'seen' around )), and -- Tamzin, I don't know if I remember meeting you before? If not, welcome!

Also nice to see our occasional posters delurk. And great to hear from Kiriseth/EK, who is greatly missed! (((Kiriseth))) -- and nice to have Crystal back and posting.

I really enjoyed the cicada/crickets/etc. conversations. I grew up with crickets (of the shiny black variety), which I love -- when I went to grad school in Kansas, I heard cicadas for the first time - and thought "Wow, these are really old power lines!! In the middle of a big city!!" The sound never completely grew on me.

EvFro mentioned the fires in Montana - yes, the fire season has been pretty active in MT this year. Hubby was up there at the beginning of this week, and came home with ash all over the car. Hoping winter comes early, with plenty of snow to put the fires out.

In re: the letter -- I say go for the delivery ASAP, and I'm glad we're not identifying our location completely. I think while our community is lovely (as are the Faculty, Goonies, etc. etc. etc.) -- it does take people awhile to figure out how we work, and *if* someone who didn't 'get' us popped in to check things out, I think it could be easy to dismiss what we say. And -- Just remembering the relocation to KD, I think we've got at least 35 members who post relatively regularly -- and probably another 20+ who are sometime posters, and frankly I've no idea how many 'lurkers' we have - but I think there are a lot out there. (((Lurkers))) ....

Am glad the letter discussion seems to have resolved peacefully, which I knew it would, with everyone involved. ((Hewene)) ((Erendis))

Can't finish the post without mentioning how powerful the new Frodo poster is -- nor the spoiler pics and hints/descriptions!! I'm pretty excited about Tuesday, whether I end up deciding to buy or rent .... Not even going to *think* about how exciting RotK is going to be!

Sigh.

I can't believe that everyone who lives in the U.K. already has TTT DVD, while we who have the misfortune to live in the wrong place are still waiting!

Does anyone have a photo of this new Frodo standee? I haven't seen that either!

At least Amazon.com has shipped my Sam in Orc Armor that was supposed to be back-ordered into September. OA Frodo seems a bit lonely on my display shelf without Sam. FOTR Sam with Frying Pan Action, TTT Sam with Rope Climbing Action and Elven Boat Sam do provide him with some companionship, but he really needs OA Sam to truly comfort him.And I can't believe that a bunch of plastic figurines have burrowed into my heart like this!

{{{Gorby}}} Thanks for the tabloid update! I hope Elwood's recovery is complete by now.

Oooh goodness - that sounds nice - I have a wonderful CHEESECAKE recipe, a no-cook, no gelatine one too - it's dead easy - quite expensive but absolutely heavenly. It's made with fresh lemons and full fat cream cheese, and double cream. Dreadful for the waistline, but the stuff that dreams and fantasies - especially Fro-fantasies - are made of. I would love to lick it off Fro's luscious bottom lip ..... drool.

I will make some for later and leave it ready for you all to help yourselves .... don't forget to save plenty to take turns feeding spoonfuls to Fro ... aw thank you for the welcome btw.

Goldenberry I can't wait to see that new standee ... I WANT ONE NOW!!! I already have the four-hobbit one and the Fro one standing right by my side of the bed ... omg ...

And I WAS confused when I saw TTT for sale on Friday (I bought it of course lol) - hadn't heard at all that it was to be released early over here!!! Strange, but nice for us!

I've convinced mum to go to WalMart at 12:01 AM to get me a DVD I'm going to get nothing done Tuesday.
*submerges again to tackle 40-page history reading assignment, leaving slightly bemused Haremites in wake*

Ah but we don't mind looking in the Mirror.

You did that Expressly, didn't you?

But then, orcs are reputedly fond of Sport ... (shudders, remembering orcly conversations of "sport" in the book)

Anyway ...

----------------------------
TTT DVD spoilers (kind of)

Have watched all the TTT DVD Featurettes.

Normally, when PJ talks about Frodo and Sam being the heart of the book, etc, the cynic in me says "lip service", and to a degree I think it's true of FOTR and TTT. FOTR - plenty of the wrong kind of Frodo - TTT - a Frodo I very much like, but very very long battle sequences.

Notwithstanding Mark Ordesky's highly irritating voice, I think I am actually CONVINCED that we will get quality Frodo and Sam in ROTK, and that it will be very moving. It's Elijah and Sean's own words that make me think this. But I suppose I'd still better not get my hopes too high ...

Things are moving a little slowly in here, so I guess you all ensconced in front of the telly watching your DVD's ...

Well, looks like everyone but me has got the DVD and are tucked up watching it. Goes off to bed grumbling. Still, it's almost Tuesday.

The One Poster has prompted me to finally buy a photo cartridge for my printer and I now have a lovely glossy little 4x6. Hopefully the shop has restocked on 8x10 paper as I have just the frame for him.

Hi Tamzin.

I see Niphredil in the preview window and yes she's been watching the DVD Waves to Niphredil.

Well, 24 hours till that DVD is here! Glad to see others have it and are enjoying themselves. will not be jealous!

Alas, still no button or OAF. Though the local Toys R Us did have the new Aragorn and Gollum.

It sure is quiet in here! Guess I'll just go and sit with Frodo as everyone else is busy elsewhere!

New Line wants to know!

I talked to my friend in promotions over the weekend via phone and told her I'd email her the letter to her New Line account this morning when my fever broke. Ack, still sick. So the letter's been sent as of a few minutes ago, so I haven't heard back yet, but, she did email me last night all excited about getting some feedback and wanted me to ask you all the following questions:

Which "Frodo" poster do you like?
The one by himself or the one with Frodo & Sam?
What would you like to see on the final box art for the ROTK dvd cover? (Remember there are legal likeness ties so it can't just be one character.)

SO there you have it, the NL promo folks want YOUR opinion! Cool, eh?

Throw out some thoughts and I'll collect and forward them to her and her team.
