Way cool, Europanya!!

I'm running out the door, but off the top of my head, I'd say for the DVD cover: Aragorn kneeling to Frodo and Sam at the Field of Cormallen. Spoilerish, I know, but it combines the two main plot threads beautifully, and of course, features our dear Squire. No contest about the poster: the angsty one of Frodo.

Euro, so sorry that you're still ill! I went through that earlier this summer, yuk. Feel better, girl!

Poster: Frodo by himself. I think it's a better picture (sorry, Sam!)

Who would I like to see on the cover:

FRODO (without question. "Like" is not strong enough. I will not buy the DVD without this picture on it).

Who should also be there (no question):

Sam (whither thou goest...)
Aragorn (he IS the king).

Who I'd really like to see next to them:

Gandalf
Merry
Pippin

Who would be really cool to include (any or all):

Eowyn
Faramir
Legolas and Gimli

Don't care squat:
Arwen
Any other kings, stewards, or battle marshalls (include them if you must *sigh*)

Would really prefer NOT to include:
Any bad guys, at all, of any kind. I know that Peter loves them, but to me they're ugly or nasty and I don't want their pictures around. This includes Gollum. I hate to even look at the guy, and he's all over the TT stuff. I'm repelled.

So great that New Line is asking. Whahoo! Thanks for passing this on.

Euro:

Which Frodo poster; - Frodo by himself.

There's no doubt. That's the best LotR poster I've ever seen. The Hobmom quote in my sig refers to that poster. *And* I have it as my desktop now, which means that when I log off and close all programs, I nevertheless end up sitting there, staring at the screen....... totally mesmerized and angsted out.

Who would I like to see on the cover:

Frodo and Sam
Faramir and Eowyn
Merry and Pippin

and I guess Aragorn and Arwen deserve a place too after all they've gone through........

Which poster? Quite a difficult choice - the Frodo & Sam one is so touching but, when it comes down to it, it would have to be the Frodo one - I think I've become addicted to it, can't last long without having another look

The ROTK dvd cover: Well, whoever else is on it, the focus must be on Frodo, who, as has often been said, is the heart and soul of the story, or at least, Frodo & Sam. Actually, I think it would be brilliant to have one of our 'comparison' pics - the young, fresh, innocent Frodo from early FOTR and the physically and mentally ravaged Frodo of ROTK.

For the DVD cover, I would rather have just THE MAP. By the time all the different fandoms get their opinions in, we'll wind up with another "floaty-head" poster.

I am not kidding.

Best poster = Frodo. Period. No question.

RotK DVD? This is hard to say, because we haven't seen what images we have to choose from yet. But if I could choose, I'd like to see the weddings on one side (so we get Aragorn / Arwen, Faramir / Eowyn in their happy ending moments, at the dawning of the Fourth Age) and a shot from The Grey Havens on the other (emphasizing the sacrifice of Frodo, the passing of the Elves, the end of the Third Age). I think the juxtaposition of these two images would be marvelously poignant, and would echo the themes of the book.

Thanks, euro! Feel better! This is just so cool to know they're listening and want to know!

----Which "Frodo" poster do you like?
----The one by himself or the one with Frodo & Sam?

Frodo by himself. No question. The Frodo & Sam one is touching, and really heart-wrenching, but it has nothing on the picture of Frodo by himself. Ack! Augh! My heart!

----What would you like to see on the final box art for the ROTK dvd cover?

Again, this is all just speculation, since we haven't seen the movie yet, and don't know for sure what's in or out. But I'd like to see something from the coronation. A nice shot of Frodo presenting the crown to Gandalf with Faramir and Aragorn there. If we can get Sam in the picture, too, that would be even better!

Ask your friend if we can re-visit the DVD cover question *after* December...

Thanks again, euro. This is a really cool thing you're doing!

And it was the Frodo & Sam one that's not sold individually. The one we previously dubbed "The Pieta".

Europanya,

Wonderful to hear that NL is actively seeking fans' opinions.

Favourite poster: Frodo, naturally! And for all the reasons already mentioned.

As for cover art: I'd imagine they're going to work Mount Doom in there somewhere. After all, that's the crux of the final installment. As long as they work Frodo and Sam in prominently, I'll be happy. Would hate to see the emphasis on battle scenes at the expense of everything else.

Another vote for the Frodo as the favorite poster, here. I was all wondering what RotK poster I was going to wind up buying to finish off my living room set, and yeah, New Line appears to have sort of made the decision for me.

As far as what's on the case, really, I couldn't care less. They could put John Ashcroft in a tutu on the cover and I'd still buy it. I'm buying it for what's on that disc, not so that I can sit there staring at the cover art. It's not like I'm going to boycott it in a fit of pique over a perceived slight to my favorite character - my grandmother did often accuse me of cutting off my nose to spite my face, but even I'm not that bad - so what's the difference?

ETA: Wasn't someone saying that the New Line store was only selling the Frodo poster as part of the full set? Because they have it for sale individually now.

Favorite poster: Frodo. No contest. That is the most angst-filled movie poster I've ever seen, and the defining ROTK poster, IMHO. Yeah, I've ordered it! I love the Sam-holding-Frodo picture, but can be contented with the 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 I printed off the Official Site.

Must see ROTK before deciding what I'd like to see on the DVD cover. At this point, I know only what I DON'T want to see:

-Collage head-shots. Had enough of those.
-Mount Doom
-Orcs & other bad guys (Sauron, Saruman, etc)
-Arwen

Europanya, thanks for doing this, and thanks for joining K-D!

Which poster do I like better... Well, I love them both, but I do find myself staring at the one with just Frodo longer.

Who would I like to see on the ROTK cover? As long as the hobbits are on there and they actually have a good picture of the squire, I'm happy.

Thank you, Euro! And get better soon, yeah?

Frodo by himself for favorite RotK poster, hands down. That image gets under my skin. In a angstingly good way, of course.

As for the DVD cover, I don't know if I'd like to see any faces. Can't really explain... I agree with Erendis, though, a simple map of Middle Earth would certainly speak for the entire story. I don't think we'll get a map though.

A bird's eye view of the fields of Cormallan would be nice. I've always liked those faw away shots of a scene, they definitely speak louder than a cluster of heads IMO.

IMO, the poster that best represents the movie is Frodo held by Sam because the real hero of LoTR is their relationship, their love for one another.

Thumbs up

Best poster.... Absolutely Frodo alone!!! What I said in Maeg's sig quote!!! It is undoubtedly THE best poster in all the LOTR series and one of the most powerful film posters of all time. I would stare at it even if it wasn't Frodo. I am buying it. And you can quote me Euro. Second best is Fro and Sam. So touching!

As for the RotK stuff....

Gotta go with Fro and Sam on the Field of Cormallen with Aragorn.

But Fro and Sam HAVE to be on it no matter what is chosen.

So glad SOMEONE at NL is finally asking US what we like. We've been trying to tell them for sometime!

My vote has to go to the Sam & Frodo picture. The solo Frodo poster is undeniably both beautiful and heartrending, but I think time has blunted us to the power of the Sam and Frodo picture. I can remember my own amazement the first time I saw it and, having had a copy on the wall of my office for some time after it was first released, have seen firsthand how it can literally stop people in their tracks.

As far as the DVD cover is concerned, I just want the pictures to properly reflect the relative importance of the various characters to the storyline.

Thanks for all the hugs, ladies - they have been most appreciated

PS: Happy Birthday Amberuni, if you're still lurking out there!

ALL cheesecakes eaten on the premises have had all the fat removed, but all the taste intact.
Now, about the Poster: my vote goes to the solo Frodo one. If I were to choose a DVD cover it would be the picture of Frodo being cradled by Sam, or the Map. PLEASE, no "floating heads"
Euro: hope you're feeling better, and many thanks for all the legwork you've done with NL.

Here's a great big hello and welcome to Westmoon! Don't be a stranger! Pull up a bench at the kitchen table and tell us about yourself!

My vote would definitely be for the Angsty!Frodo picture, but the Pieta is definitely a close second. They both make me wibble

As for the cover, I really couldn't say -- I'd really have to see the movie first and note which visuals I like best, but it absolutely *must* have Frodo & Sam on it. Period. Full stop. No doubt about it.

lol I'm sure Ashcroft's got the legs to look good in a tutu! Heck, pink tights would probably be an improvement!

I'm with most of the others on the poster - Frodo alone. I think what Ghyste said was so true...the Sam and Frodo one really had an impact on me when I first saw it but not so much now.

ROTK cover - several have made reference to the Fields of Cormellen...and Sam, Frodo, withh Aragorn kneeling before them....is there an actual picture floating around of this? This would definitely be my choice.

Thanks Euro and do get better soon!

Wow, NL wants to know! How cool is that?!

I like the Frodo poster. Seeing the wounds on his neck and the desperation in his eyes touches me more deeply than the Frodo/Sam one. We've seen Frodo fall into the dead marshes, get stabbed by a cave troll, just to name a few, and he keeps coming out of these situations (to an ignorant audience) physically hurt free. Why would this one be any different? It's the way with heroes in many movies, "Gee, it's just a flesh wound." But in Frodo’s poster, you can see that ROTK is not going to be one of those “two-dimensional feel good” movies. It has depth. It has a life and death struggle. It has sacrifices. Frodo is not going to be all right. And you can see all of that in this one poster.

As far as the DVD goes, maybe a before/after affect? Perhaps one of Frodo and Sam’s backs as they are looking up at the mountain, which would look HUGE and UGLY of course, and the other of Aragorn’s coronation or perhaps some other happy event.

Happy Birthday, amberuni!

Wow! New Line wants MY opinion! Europanya, you ROCK.

OK, here's what I think:

Which "Frodo" poster do you like?
The one by himself or the one with Frodo & Sam?

Frodo in Sam's arms turns me into a puddle of goo. Frodo suffering alone turns me into a puddle of goo. Both fine posters. Both express for me the heart and soul of LOTR. Both equally heartbreaking. Can't choose. Sorry. Happy with either.

What would you like to see on the final box art for the ROTK dvd cover? (Remember there are legal likeness ties so it can't just be one character.)

Frodo and Sam, anywhere.
Faramir and Eowyn
